Gentlemen;
First, let me say this is my favorite forum!
I recently figured out how to add my Army unit battalion
"crest" to my account.
Soon a fellow Pathfinder from the 12th messaged me.
Today I noticed a post about Airborne soldiers, that
also mentioned the 12th. Our Alpha Co supported the 509th in Mainz. We had airborne slots all through the company, I steadfastly remained a "leg" and gave up all that extra money.
Vineyards were tough to land in, my pals said, followed by sugar beet fields. We had lots of both.
That means there are at minimum three of us here.
Anybody else? How about in the 8th Infantry? V Corps?
No, the VFW did not let me join.

8th ID vet here. I was at Lee Barracks, Mainz, from 1988 through DESERT STORM. I was in the 118th Forward Support Battalion, supporting 1st Brigade. Before that, I was on the V Corps Artillery staff at V Corps HQ in Frankfurt.

When I was sent to RVN as part of the 101st(all jump qualified) we went as a unit and one of our first replacements was a paratrooper from the 8th straight from Germany to RVN. He was not a happy E-5!

No airborne troops in 8th ID when I was there. 8ID was a mechanized infantry division, meaning it had one more mech battalion than armor battalion. First Brigade had two mech battalions and one tank battalion at Lee Barracks and another tank battalion at Widlflecken.
