ran across a 13-1. The revolver looked good normal holster wear, the asking price was $449. Is this price in the ball park. I have been told that christmas is coming each time I look at the S&W book so no book yet. I just don't know much about this model S&W. j

Around here that is high by about $75-$100. I am guessing it has a 4 inch barrel?

That wouldn't be a bad price for a very crispy example in nickel, but in blue it would be about $50-75 high. Especially if it doesn't have the box, tools, paper and you are paying sales tax on top of that...

Agreed. That is a bit high for a 4" model. Those are 3" prices.

1 old o311 great pictures. After looking at the model 13 thay are just a great looking revolver. All business no frills. The bad thing about all the great pictures on this site, one just sees another Smith that you don't have and now need after seeing the photo.

j,

I own a nickle 4", a blue 4" and a blue 3" and I have to say they are great shooting revolvers, but, other than the 3 inchers, they don't command the prices some others do. Seems like some kinda M&P thing.
See if you can dazzle the seller with $300.00 in crisp c-notes with a fifty held back!
They are worth owning and, like real estate, they're not making any more.

Mike

I agree that the price is high, especially for a 4". It is closer to a price for a really nice 3", but even then I might haggle a little bit.

I picked this one up back in July for under 350 no box or papers. and I added the grips Dates to 1977.
And it is p&r

In California the price is not out of line. I paid a year and half ago $445 for a 13-2 4 inch in over 95% condition. In California model 13 are rare and command a higher price than the model 19.
Regards,
Howard

Might be the best unaltered trigger you will ever experience in a revolver. At least, my not-so-pretty 4" 13-1 is! :D Excellent shooter, too.

4" 13's are not rare, and not too common. 3" 13's are less common and more coveted, something about some large 3-letter agency destroying thousands of their issue 13's when they upgraded. I forget the details, someone can post that if they want.

went back to gun show

I went back to the gun show after church. I tried once more for $350 but $375 was best I could do so walked around for awhile and went back and purchased the revolver. I can't wait to get to the range it has a great trigger. I will get some pictures later.

Also my thanks to all of you for the informatin. But the more I think about it,this was like asking someone in a bar if beer is good for you.

Be sure to do your homework, this is a "K" frame revolver. I am not an expert, but I own a 13-1, so I pay attention to the postings on this and other "K" frames. There is a history of forcing cone cracking on a few of these "K" frame when shooting 'hot' 357 rounds with lighter bullets. Summarizing what I have read, they are meant to carry 357 defensive rounds, but practice with 38 spl (or 38 spl +P). From what I have read, when shooting 357 rounds, stay away from the 110g and 125g 1300 FPS and up rounds, shoot the 158g 1200FPS and under rounds.
Opinions vary as to whether this is truly a wide-spread likely-to-happen problem or an unlikely-to-happen isolated occurrence. Regardless, S&W does not make these any more, so replacement parts would be tough to find.

Enjoy!

Yes I always check the forcing cone. I like the size of K frame S&W's. I find thay are great to carry in the timber. Will run 38's thru them on the range and carry 357's in timber. If I see one at a show or gun shop it is hard not to take it home. Today the temp is 19 here with 29mph wind gusting to 41mpr so will just shine the 13 today. Wind should go down tuesday so will go out for some range time.
