..saw a 13-3 at the pawn shop...it has the diamond grips on it

What is this worth? 300$? about 85% blue left...I think the grips are worth something as I belive they are old pre 60something ones with the diamond around the screw

But I am no expert...help me learn more

If it's a 3" then it's a definite buy.
If it's a 4" then it's an ok deal.
Either way, they aren't making any more of them!
I have the 3" RB now and will find a nice 4" to go with it this year.

13-3 blue or nickle? 3" or 4" barrel? Square butt or round butt? 85% does not sound too good but one guy's 95% is another guy's 85%. That's why pictures help so much. If it's a true 85% blue 4" SB I would not pay $300 for it. JMO.
Added: I think the diamond grips were used until 1967 but they would not be original to that gun. But I do like the diamond grips so that's a little bonus. JMO.

Blue ,rb, 4" just some wear on the muzzle and cylinder...I might go back monday and take a closer look but the grips cover the bottom,I think, he showed me several before they come out...I know they are not correct but they are the older ones...

This stuff gets addicting...can't go in there too much I always find myself getting in trouble with the Mrs.

The diamond-pattern grips will bring a premium price, then you can easily install a pair of period-correct grips for a few bucks. Diamond magnas (service stocks) in excellent condition will easily bring $50; diamond targets in excellent condition should bring $75 or more. Magnas were standard on the Model 13-3, and these can be found on eBay all day long for around $10 to $15.

So, if everything else checks out (timing, lock-up, yoke play, etc) I think that $300 is a pretty good deal.

next week is gonna be ruff at home

...I have devoloped a problem...:D...I will be going back and putting that on lay a way ...traded for a 642 centenial yesterday and bought two right before Christmas, 65-3 3" and 686 no dash. 4"..my 1911's are getting worried;)...but think I am done for now...2 j's, 2 K's ,2 L's ,2 1911's...that outa cover it...

Is there a 12 step program for this ?

Trouble ahead captian...might better sart looking for another dog for the Wife...

Buy IT

ANY used S&W revolver for $300 would last MAYBE half a day in the gun case of any of my local dealers here in PA. I don't know what it is, old Smiths are few and far between and those in any kind of shootable condition fly off the shelf for even more than $300. A 13, even if someone didn't know exactly "what it was" would sell for $300. Not to knock the K-Frame .357's, but my fear with buying them used around me, is that some goober might have not known any better and fired a few thousand hot handload .357's "Same as I use in ma Ruger huh huh huh!!" and loosened it up. They just see that ".357 Magnum" on the barrel and think they can blast away with the hottest stuff they can crank out of the Lee press.

I snapped up a cosmetically beat and carelessly handled, but lightly fired 10-5 6" for $270 and the owner said "good move, some guy said he was coming back for that tomorrow, he had no cash on him". Gotta buy em when you sees em I guess!

I had seen a 4" Model 19 for sale in another store near me for $375, that was two months ago so it's a pipe dream to think it's even still there. Next to it was a Bernadelli 9mm auto that has been laying there for 3 years.

Meanwhile there has been a 6" Colt Official Police in fair but solid shape sitting there for a year for $350, the Colt's just don't sell as much, that's why I was able to get a very nice Positive for like $250.

It sounds like you are getting 357 rich. if I was in your position I would probably pass. Having enough 38/357 revolvers I would probably save my nickles and look for a larger caliber N frame to balance out the collection on the top end.
IF a gun is a smoking deal ,and I can buy it and trade it to a friend or at a show for something I don't have then I'll bite.

But , for me, the days of buying o.k. priced average shooters are over.
A piece really has to speak to me to come home these days.

If your budget is limited ,then save a few more duckets for something special.

I totally agree with Allen. After a while too many become more of a liability than asset.
