When he tested Buffalo Bore's .38 FBI load the hollow point just plugged up and turned it into a solid with no expansion . Changed my mind about using that as a carry load .

I use that Gold Dot load in my LCR. Looking at his other videos and seeing 2 street proven 9mm loads (9BP and Win 127gr+P+) fail to expand in the media he's using just confuses me as to what we should take away from his results.

I carry that exact load in my 442. On my CED chrono it clocked almost exactly what the factory claimed. I was highly impressed and quite happy to finally find someone is making ammo that will do what they claim.

good ol tennessee outdoors. i seen this video during the summer, and well its the round i keep in my s&w 10 snub now for home protection. bought a box for 24.95 @ the last gunshow. the round just reeks quality..

It's fun to watch his videos, but it reality his tests prove nothing. Humans are not made of water soaked newspaper in milk jugs, permagel or even ballistic gel. What matters is how bullets react to real human flesh, blood and bones in real world shootings, and the Win Ranger 127SXT+P+ is one of the top performers in real human beings.

If I carried a pistol that was rated for standard pressure 9mm loads only, Federal's 9BP would be my top pick in 115gr and Gold Dots in 124gr.

True but that Ranger 127+P+ he tested should of showed at least some expansion .

Excellent video and data. Now, if I could only find some for sale. Anybody have an internet source for this ammunition???

Midway has this Speer round for a good price. Great round.

I use it in my 3" 64-3. Used by NYPD with very good results too. Regards 18DAI

Actually, it expanded enough to make it a little wider than a full wadcutter, and it penetrated very well. The same basic load from other companies has a very good street rep. The FBI went to a jacketed bullet mainly to get better penetration on cars.

I dislike calling the lead form the Chicago load because that city has such nasty gun laws and odious politicians. Let's call it the Dallas or Miami-Dade or FBI load. :D

A gun editor who has shot some animals says that the expanded bullets most nearly resemble what those bullets do in water tests. BTW, he's shot alligators effectively with 125 grain .357's in a snub M-66 or M-19, I forget which.

Back about the time that Dallas adopted the 158 grain lead HP, I talked with Dr. Vincent DiMaio, who encouraged adoption after extensive lab tests. I think he used gelatin, but said that the round deposited well over 200 ft. lbs. of energy in the target medium. The old lead RN deposited just 84 ft. lbs.! No wonder it was a poor stopper!

If memory serves me correct, St. Louis was the first department to adopt the "FBI" load.

I like his video's also - very high quality IMHO.

I also like the Speer 135 gr. Gold Dot round, but I like the BB +P 158 gr. LSWCHP better for a few reasons:

1) Better penetration

2) Higher velocities

3) Much greater energy in foot pounds

4) Shoots to point of aim _ always liked the 158's in 38 spl. revolvers

I will fully admit that the BB round will not expand as reliably or to the same diameter as the GD will, but I feel its greater speed and shocking power will more than make up for that. I am also a fan of heavier bullets especially in short barreled revolvers. If tomorrow the BB round was not available anymore, I would use the Speer GD as my next choice.

Chief-

Is the Buffalo Bore accurate in your guns? In another thread, someone said that it doesn't shoot well for him.

I want to try it, but hesitate if it isn't accurate. I may need to head-shoot a snake as well as a 250 pound man or a big dog.

About that 9mm federal 9BP not expanding............

I shot a speer 125 Gold Dot through my M49 into 3 water jugs with a patrical board behind them and another water jug behind it,this summer.
the velosity from the snub nose was 836 fps and the 1st jug was at 10 feet. The bullet went through the jugs and stuck half way into the board. The bullet did not show any signs of trying to open up,due to lack of velosity.
The federal 115gr just needed maybe 50fps more maybe, and it would have mushroomed, as the speer 125 did on a 2nd chance with a velosity of 905 fps. (different bullet)

Noting better than a GD or HST going out the end of a barrel.
Sure are pretty when dug out of gel.
