135 Grain .38 Gold Dot Video

It's fun to watch his videos, but it reality his tests prove nothing. Humans are not made of water soaked newspaper in milk jugs, permagel or even ballistic gel. What matters is how bullets react to real human flesh, blood and bones in real world shootings, and the Win Ranger 127SXT+P+ is one of the top performers in real human beings.
Overall true, but it's questionable to say tests prove nothing. Meaningful understanding of how different bullet are likely to perform against one another in a real world shooting can be extrapolated from testing different loads against the same media to establish a baseline of bullet performance.

That's the key: different loads against the same media.

Nobody's saying simulations are definitive.

Interesting, the Winchester Ranger; could you link some reports?

Excellent video-the +P gold dots are what I generally keep loaded in my 438, so I'm glad to see a real-world example of how they might do.

I carry that Speer 135gr GD SB load in my M442 daily. It's a good load for that revolver. In some of my other J frames I carry the FBI Load because it's most accurate in those revolvers and I carry standard velocity Nyclad ammo in one particular older J frame.

I realize that the gelatin media is used for consistency but I really don't have too much confidence in the results reflecting realistic bullet performance on real bone and tissue.
The following website does its testing using both gelatin alone and a bone simulating plate before the gelatin and I feel its more representative of what happens in the real world.
That said I carry Speer +P Gold Dot Short Barrel in my 442. The test results I've seen on Brass Catcher has made me more aware that it is so much more about shot placement than bullet expansion! I certainly don't mean to step on anyones toes and would like to say that this is only my opinion.

Out of stock .
Hate to give away one of my better fishing holes, but when it's in stock AmmoToGo has this round in law enforcement packages sold to civvies: 150% more ammo for 75% more cost, that is, 50 rounds for $35 instead of $20 for 20 rounds.

I believe this is one of the .38s Massad Ayoob recommends. I think it's had a number of tests on the street & is doing well.

Another he recommends is the Rem. 158gr Lead SWC HP +P.
