14-2 ppc gun? Possibly

This has been sitting in one of my local shops for over a year or two now, they want $650 for it. It's an old school style ppc gun. Trigger is great. Thoughts, opinions. I have a 14-6 full lug that I love and thought about making an offer since it's sat for so long

Considering how long they've had it, I'd offer $500 walk-out. Then give whatever they counter with. These are normally great shooters. JMO.

I already have the full lug 14, would be a cool gun to add, if I gave them a cash price I'm sure they'd take it.

With the top rib the way it is, you have a guess on who did the custom work or no? I took a quick pic so it isn't the best.

It appears to be a stock Model 14 with an added rib (perhaps Aristocrat?), not a full blown PPC custom job. Considering I saw a lot of stock Model 14s shot competitively in competition, I would not hesitate to give them the asking price.

When was the last time you saw any Model 14 for that price?

I've handled it before and it has had some trigger work done, the action is super smooth on it. It's definitely a cool piece that deserves to be shot.

Nearly 40 years ago I bought a full house PPC gun, built on a Model 14-?, with bull barrel, Aristocrat rib, etc, etc. it was wonderful for that style of competition, but when those matches fell out of popularity I had a gun that was "all dressed up with no place to go", a relic of a bygone era. It is one of the few personal guns I've sold with no regrets.
I can still admire the craftsmanship and artistry that went into building them, but to me, they no longer have any useful place in my life so I'd have to pass. The only PPC gun I'd even consider buying today would be one of the 4" heavy barrel Model 19s with a Bomar Cover-up rib. At least I could carry that.

More known builders would usually mark their work. I have a PPC gun built by Austin Behlert and his name is marked on the gun.
A local gun smith may not mark the gun. Doesnt mean it isnt a good shooter.

Could be a PPC revolver, could also be a 6 inch Model 14 with the sight rib added for use in NRA Bullseye competition.

Offer them $550 cash OTD; they'll counter with $600 and jump on it then!! Still a Model 14 and well worth that-rib or not. Good luck.

Given its obvious pedigree, a S&W Model 14, it should be a fine shooter.
Approach it with your intended use in mind. Do you plan to use it "as is", or remove rib?
Some ribs utilized factory holes in frame. Some needed extra holes in frame, barrel and removal of factory front sight.
I've seen a lot of ribs & scope mounts hiding holes. Some perfectly installed and some,,,,,, not-so-much
As with anything that has been altered, your mileage may vary.
If you do get it, Please share some more photos. I always enjoy the "Paul Harvey" rest-of-the-story

Maybe "sneak up" on it and have the bbl shortened to 3" or 4".....depending on how it shoots& your intended use?

I built a couple of heavy barrel PPC type guns way back when. All the ribs I saw back in the day required holes drilled & tapped into the barrel/barrel rib. That it fits on a stock barrel 14 suggests it's a coverup rib. But, those were generally made for fixed sight guns, so I doubt the original front sight is still there.
