I have a chance to buy a 1975 14-3.
Asking price is $500.00. It comes with original box
and paperwork. Also has original grips. Don't know about the tools.
My question is...Is the gold lettering original???

Thanks

No, it was common at one point in time for owners of Smith and Wessons to put gold color in the lettering to make the gun more "attractive"... It was the 70s, go figure, right? Anyways, it can generally be removed if you don't like the look of it.

Thanks for the reply...I've looked at lots of pictures, never saw the gold lettering, kinda what i figured.

Some people like the lettering colored on their revolvers in white or gold but most purists don't like it.
