15-2 Holster

Ran into an unexpected chance to buy a very nice 15-2 and bought it yesterday. I need a range holster for it and want leather but am not having much luck finding one yet.

By range holster I mean something open and simple. I won't be rolling around on the ground grappling with felons at my range and don't see the need for retention devices. There are many such simple and open and inexpensive holsters for single actions but I don't see one for a K frame out there. Can someone suggest one for a 15-2?

One of my carry holsters for my 15-2 is an open top Tucker...You'll find two different makers for the Tucker style...I suggest Tucker & Byrd in Porter Texas......Ben

Not a lot of people carry 4” revolvers these days. You could order one from a custom maker, but that can get expensive and most have a long lead time.

I’d check the auction sites. Most holsters made for a 4” medium frame revolver should work just fine. I wouldn’t discount one with a retaining strap or thumb break either. You don’t have to use it and can sometimes tuck the strap out of the way. You should be able to find something decent for about $30.

You could also place a WTB ad here in our classifieds. I know a lot of members have holsters that they don’t use stashed away.

1791 holsters are hard to beat for the money. Also Sportsman’s Guide sells leather holsters $30 range. I have 3 of them for various k and n frames. Very nice field holster

If you are not married to leather Uncle Mike's make a lot of low-dollar nylon holsters that would suit your purpose.

If you go to Ebay and search "k frame holster 4"", you will find about 77 used holsters to consider.

Seeing OP doesn't require anything special for a holster Ebay would be the place to shop to find the widest selection and price.

There were lots of vintage holsters made to fit the four inch Combat Masterpiece/Model 15. Even a range holster can have a touch of class. This one was made by Chas Bluemel. It's anyone's guess as to the age of the holster, but the gun is of late 50's vintage...

If you can find a vintage S&W branded holster like the one in the picture with my 15-3 you would be very pleased. Lined leather. Numbers on back are 27 34. It also fits my 4" Model 10 and my 4" Colt Official Police. Use it all the time when I go to the range.

To the OP SJS, if you send me a PM with your address, I will send you a right hand Smith & Wesson leather holster marked on the back 21 04.

It is far from worn out, although it looks to have been honorably worn by someone for a few years. It fits my 19-5 perfectly.

ETA, This holster also fits my 15–3 exactly, which is the same as a 15–2. Offer still stands.

I have a model 18 and a 67 that I usually take to the holstered. I have a Bianchi Threepersons style that I bought in the early 70s. Nice basic holster , nice workmanship. It has held up well. Not sure if this is still available. I also have a Bianchi 5B lined. This also a very nice holster. This one I picked up from the used bin at a local gun store.

Either of these is a good choice for carrying your model 15. I like the look of those fitted leather rigs from the 60s and 70s. They just look right with a fine old Colt or S&W. Safariland offered some similar holsters that would work. Even the holsters that S&W made back then are nice.

I have this same holster in black. When I bought it, it housed a Pre Model 27 with a 3.5 inch barrel. The gun shipped in 1950 so I would guess the holster is from around the same time. I bought it from the family of the owner. It is stamped Chas. Bluemel Maker, El Paso, Texas. Seems like your beautiful holster and gun are perfectly paired, in my opinion.

I like the Bucheimer "Concealor" holsters for my 4" Model 10s but work equally well for my Model 15-2. I bought a few on ebay a couple years ago for $20-30/each. You'd be looking for one as numbered in the photo or just C-14 as others I've bought. The 004 means four inch and the 14W is K frame basket weave.

Any K Frame leather holster made for a 4" barrel will work, it does not have to be specifically for a M15-2 as all 4" K Frames should fit.. There are probably a bunch available on ebay and you might even find a few in the $5 box at your local gun store. Some may have a retention strap but like you said, for simple use at the Range you can cut the strap off or just leave it unsnapped.
