Here is my oldest on his first trip out with "his new gun" and we had some fun!!!!!! :)

At 4.5 years old he now claims my project as his, "cos its the same as my gun Daddy!!"

think I should shut shop and just go shoot with my boy.

what a great way to spend the first day of being 44. :D

Safety training ongoing with both my boys, so far RULE 1, DO NOT TOUCH GUN CABINET.

My Dad was a WW2 Combat vet. Bought me my first rifle in 1968 when I was 15, a used surplus British Lee Enfield 303 from WW2. Trust me, you will never forget the time you share with eachother.

I remember my dad taking me and my little brother out when we're little guys shooting his 22 revolver. He passed away three months ago, and one of the last things we did was go out and shoot together. Actually the evening we went out I had my boy with me and dad sat in the truck because he didn't feel good enough to get out. He loved every moment of watching us. Memories I will have until I pass on.

I recall the first rifle I fired. It too was a WW11 Enfield #4 .303. I was 13 years old. Awesome! And I still recall that first shot! Held
Tight the second round. :-)

Do you think a 4.5 year old is mature enough to go shooting with his dad?

Do you think a 4.5 year old is mature enough to go shooting with his dad?

Have you really got nothing better to do than "snark" on every post I put up?

Is 4.5yrs old too young to spend quality time with dad learning how to safely and correctly be around firearms. NO! Proper and Safe introduction and Training = Healthy Respect and Safe Use in later life.

My son, my decision as to how and when to introduce proper and correct SAFE firearm practice.

Best regards

Rob.

Think it's up to the Dad to decide how old is old enough. Some kids are very mature for their age. I personally think it's sweet that Rob1 is spending precious time with his son. Some dads could take a leaf out of his book! Good on you, Rob1. Treasure the memories you are making as I am sure your son will in years to come.

I just asked a polite question. No need for you to respond the way you did! I looked at the pics and didn't see any ear or eye protection, which upset me a lot. You should learn to respect other peoples opinions even if you don't agree!
I took my daughter to the range when she was 15. She didn't like it, which of course was disappointing to me.

To Elmer

Hi Elmer.
Maybe you should have just asked the question, not just assumed eye and ear protection was not worn? Didn't see any pictures of the kid actually during firing - he may well have worn them.
Am sure that Rob1 would have approached a polite question in a different way?

Ear protection not required with a suppressed .22. Look at the end of the barrel. :)

Besides, there could be ear plugs in his ears. :)

Hi Once more to all,

It may take me a bit to get this in, sorry in advance. :D

Just to help with the finer points from this OP, I was shooting suppressed with subsonic so no need for hearing protection as rifle only "pops" and "clicks" with the movement of the action.

Eye protection was used when needed even though son was stood behind to my left so nowhere near brass ejection and shooting debris.

Also as outside there was no chance of any noise damage due to enclosed space as could be the case with indoor shooting.

For ElmerV, I am not a disrespectful person by any stretch of the imagination, however in previous posts you have responded in a negative way to ideas for you and your shooting groups. You have intimated that I am a liar and did not shoot my own targets as well as openly calling me a JOKE!

I am sorry your girl didn't like her outing, my son has been desperate to go from the day I got my 15-22. :(

I have never tried to make you feel your choice of purchase for the .22 rifle was not a good one again even though you intimated that I had given you doubts as to your choice.

I am not sure how you would expect me to respond to your posts when I have tried to be RESPECTFUL and POLITE to each response, albeit a little abrupt at times.

I am now at this point, I will ask that you refrain from posting any opinion on my posts and I will refrain from same. I think it is clear that we will never agree on anything, so I think it would be prudent to call it a day.

You continue to shoot and enjoy and I will do same. whether it be indoor - outdoor, pistol or rifle. shooting is shooting.

Sheesh you think you might be overreacting a bit? He just questioned about the kid being mature enough. I too think that is a bit young for a "real" firearm, but that's me, and that's my opinion. We all have them you know. Seems to me you were the one being "snarky" with your response.

Rob 1:
Let me clarify some points,
1/ I never said that you didn't shoot your own targets. That is a lie!
( I said that I doubt your 1/4 inch groups at 70-80 yards and asked you to show the targets...still waiting)
2/ You called me " angry and opinionated ". Is that being respectful?
3/ You never gave me constructive criticism how to improve my shooting, except shooting 5-10 groups. My opinion is that you should shoot minimum 10 shot groups to REALLY evaluate a guns/rifles accuracy.
4/ You, in a disrespectful way, made fun of me calling M&P 15-22 a gun and not riFle. English is not my first language, as I said I'm Swedish. Is that being respectful?
5/ I do not regret my purchase. Love my "gun".... It is a very fun "gun" to shoot, but it's still a plinker and by design not ossicle to shoot 1/4 inch groups at 70 yards (as you said measuring the outside circumference, I.e center to center would be 1/16 of an inch)
6/ I can post my opinions on anything I want..this forum is for anybody. It is just freedom of speach. I you don't want Opinions you don't like, just don't post anything!
6/ yes..I called you a joke, but I also said that I will apologize for what I said if you show this amazing group. still waiting.
7/. Your friend said that the rifles are hand picked for UK. I actually asked S&W if that was true, which they said it was NOT. (Of course I didn't believe that in the first place)
Well Rob1....keep shooting..have fun with your sons.
Be safe out there!
One question at last: Are silencer legal in UK?

Yes. Moderators/ suppressors/silencers are legal. They are actually encouraged as a purchase when applying for license to buy rifle ( Each weapon has to be applied for individually as we don't have "right to bear arms ).

As for everything else.

I don't belong to a gun club and only access I have to shoot is on open land. Hence guesstimate distances. I can use a range that I have to pay approx 5 bucks per half hour to have a lane. But this is only after members finish. Last trip was on a Monday. Got home at half past midnight.

Next time I have a bout of insomnia I will go shoot some 5 round targets but am guessing it won't be anytime too soon.
