like every new gun i get a buy a large veriaty of ammo and test fire the gun and find what she likes. well lucky me when i bought my riffle i stocked the ammo then cause right now its settle 4 what you can find and hope your gun likes it:confused:

first i laser sighted the scope in and then started at 50 yards..
i bought some cci's
some Aguila Super Maximum Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 30 Grain Hyper Velocity Plated Lead Hollow Point witch i head i hopes 4 also
remington cyclone
remington subsonic s
& winchester bushman..

bushman = 37g about 1290fps
aquila 30g = about 1750fps
remington cyclone = 40g about 1250 fps
remington subs = 40g about 890 fps

besides the subs being very quit the cyclone was also so quit my wife didnt beleave i was fireing a gun. the bushman were very load and so were the aquilas.

i started first shot while dialing the scope with rem subs and at 50 yards was getting a 1 inch group almost dead on. i shot about 20 rounds with these and blew out the backboard with the tight pattern. i then tried the aquila and had alot of misfires even with it not being a bolk ammo deal. at 50 yards i had a 18 inch grouping. they were all over the place. even with a 30g bullet they hit very hard. they just didnt hit were you wanted. so i moved on to the bushman. only 1 misfire and about a 8inch grouping. better then the aquila but now were even close to the rem sub sonics. then i loaded up the cyclones and again these were very quit almost like the subs but moving a bit faster. out of 20 rounds i had a 3inch grouping. now with this being a brand new gun and the first rounds rolling thru the barrel i went ahaid and loaded the subs back up and out of 5 shots i had a 1inch grouping now. 3 shots litteraly went thru same hole....
ok now on to the 100 yards. all shots this time were 5 were as above at 50 they were 20 rounds. the subs held a 4 inch groping at 100, the cyclone held 6 to 7 while the other 2 (bushman and aquila )were off the charts, litteraly they were all over the place.

I have no understanding why the bullets with the punch were so off and wild while the 2 quit rounds that sounded like a nail gun were right on. i know that i found the biggest problem u have with a 22lr being dead on ammo is if you feel the bullet on the end it feels loose and wobbly.. they just dont feel like there locked down tight.

im kind of at a lose with this gun. it looks mean and i would like to have some hard hitting ammo that can find the target.
also 1 more thing. i found the remington cyclone to be my favorite even thow it was aliitle of compared to the subs but i found this ammo put out alot i mean alot of smoke. just shooting 1 round there was smoke rolling out the riffle.

i love this gun but need it to be on target alittle better for my liken. i have added a new trigger among many other things and i have a 16 1/2 barrel. with 1/9 twist. i want to add a longer barrel and was thinking 18 but how about a 22 inch.. would it make that much diff with it only being a 22?

any thought on ammo test u found plz plz share and had anyone found ways to make this riffle more on target consitanly rather then 2 out of 5 shots???

pictures of my girl... any help or results u found im all ears!!

no one has any testing results they would like to add for some feed back??

If you had any long experience with .22LR you would know why you got the results you got.
1. The .22lr bullet has lousy sectional density (especially the light hyper bullets) and no aerodynamic shape.
2. Because of #1 when the bullet breaks the sound barrier then slows down it gets buffeted a lot by the turbulence as it drops below the speed of sound, ruining the reliability of the bullet travel as it crosses back below.
3. Reason why match ammo always has muzzle velocities of between 1050-1070 FPS is so the bullet never crosses the sound barrier, or even gets to close to it (about 1120 FPS at sea level).
4. Longe range precision rimfire shooters always use ammo from either Lapua or Eley in match, standard or subsonic velocities (all are below 1100 FPS).
So what you did bears out exactly how .22 LR ammo is supposed to act.
An AR15-22 is only available with a 1:16 twist barrel and there are no others available, only the regular 16" and the PC model 18".
Also a 1:9 twist is too fast a spin rate for .22LR 32-40g which needs a 1:16. What you can shoot out of a 1:9 twist barrel is Aguila SSS 60g Subsonic. 1:9 is a perfect spin rate for a 60g bullet, but it may not cycle your gun.

all i shoot is the Rem sub sonics, since the rifle has a dedicated can, it will do exactly the same groupings as your test with the SS. have not missed a rabbit yet, unless it was totally my fault or he was in afterburner mode heading toward Mexico, with it.
my buddy though with his bolt action savage can shoot velocitors into a single ragged hole. so who knows.

4 inch groping at 100

I hope this is what I think it is. Spell check will mess you up.

Photoracer gave you the basic rundown. Subsonic will give you the tightest groups, hyper velocity is awesome up to the point where it randomly flings itself off into some unmentioned direction, and high velocity can be any mix of the two. Most shoot high velocity and accept the advantages and limitations that it offers. Some brands are obviously better than others. Most importantly, test what works best from your rifle and stick with that regardless of what anyone tells you. Your results from your rifle will not lie.

I thought you shouldn't run subsonic through the 15-22...am I nuts?

I think the only reason that it isn't recommended is simply because it may not cycle the action correctly. And some "quiet" loads are very underpowered, thus increasing the possibility of a bullet not fully exiting the barrel. So far I have not heard of anyone on this forum having problems with standard velocity or subsonic ammo.

CCI sub sonic works perfectly in mine. Just love it! Keep in mind, most match grade ammo is sub sonic. A 22lr has issues as it breaks the sound barrier & again when it slows down, from what I've read. Therefore the most accurate 22 ammo stays just below the speed of sound, with still enough bang to cycle the bolt.

fwiw, the 15-22 PC model states that it has a 18" 1:15 twist barrel.

as far as subsonic ammo.. I tried some remington that another shooter (at the range) asked me to try since I was shooting my bolt savage mkII. They shot fine except one was slightly delayed after the trigger pull. Weird thing is I hit a bulls eye with that one at 50yds. His groupings looked like buckshot but he had a feeling his barrel needed to be recrowned or buffed a little. It's a little disconcerting wondering if the bullet actually got all the way through the barrel since the bang wasn't very pronounced. I noticed some major dings in the brass though and one looked like someone bent it sideways. This was all out of a new box.

Not that it will not exit the barrel but it may not fully cycle the action. Even the primer alone can usually get the bullet going fast enough to clear the barrel.

One of my 2 15-22 is a PC model and I am pretty sure the twist rate is 1:15.7 which rounds off to 16. Although to be honest the difference between 15 and 16 is less than that between 9 and 8.

My 15-22 seems to eat anything I feed it. This mornings results:

Tried an old box of Remington Cyclones lead nose: 50 rounds, 1 Failure to Load

Federal Bulk Pack: 100 Rounds no issues
CCI Mini Mag SV: 100 Rounds no issues
Federal American Eagle: 100 Rounds no issues

Didn't notice any difference in accuracy at 50 yards that could be attributed to the ammo.

Nice looking rifle. I just bought mine a few weeks back and due to the snow every Sunday, I haven't had much of a chance to shoot it. The few clips I put through were of the Remington Golden Bullets. I bought a tub (1400 rounds) at cabela's for $60. They work fairly well. But like someone posted earlier, every gun is different. I usually shoot the cheap federals from wally world and my squirrel kill count is way up there using those, so i'd say they work well. I know both of thoughts are not recommended according to the manual.

Hey,
I thought that I bought you that tub and we are supposed to share it...lol

thanks for the responses guys....
that riffle was my first 22, i never even shot a 22 pistol or riffle before this one... now i own 2, i bought the chippa mfour and i love her... ( i know its an off name but its more true to the ar, i can take my ar upper and bolt it right to her.. i even but an aluminum quod rail on her with an aluminum rear pipe and its an all around great riffle.. cost me more then my m&p did.

and it would figure, i bought 1 box of subsonic (50 count) and have thousands of the rest...
so for just making noise im going to burn thru them, but when i want to be dead on target im only using Remington subsonic rounds.. my 22lr's really like that ammo. the results had my head spinning but everything ya'll said makes perfect sence...
