15-22 Iron Sights

I'm thinking about running my iron sights from my 15-22 on my M&P OR. The original plan was a PA micro dot but man I had a lot of fun shooting irons the other day.

I got the MBUS for the OR but don't want to risk melting the front sight on the block. The MBUS would also work great on the 15-22 with my red dot.

Has anyone done this and should it be pretty much on target once attached? the MBUS were about right on without any tweaks.

I have an email out asking S&W if the iron sights on the 15-22 are the same as the irons they originally put on the Sport. I have not received a response. It seems that I saw somewhere that the irons on the 15-22 are specifically marked for .22lr use only, but I could be wrong.

I have a A2 carry handle on the AR I assembled. Red dots are cool and serve a purpose, but I find shooting irons to be plain fun.

I just checked my parts box and found the OEM 15-22 sights. The rear A2 sight off the 15-22 is the exact same as the 15-Sport. The front sight is metal (aluminum). It should work fine on that gas block. Good thinking BillyJack!

The sights will need to be mechanically zeroed. No big deal. It's easy to do. I use a method similar to what is in this video:

Now that I think about it, I'm kind of glad I purchased a standard 15-22. The OEM sights on it are very nice to have.

If you ever want to get a carry handle for a decent price, comb the "tactical" AR forums. Guys take off the carry handles on their Colts, and they sometimes sell them for cheap.

Yes, they will fit on no problem. Adjusting will probably be required, but it will probably be minimal.

Very cool. I figured they would work but wanted to bounce the idea off the forum before I went and spent some rounds trying to zero in. Thanks for the input, they go on today!
