Has anyone actually experienced one or heard of one anywhere other than the random posts you find on the gun forums. I've readpost about them possibly being able to fire out of battery, but I don't put a lot of stock in that kind of infor without some verification..

I went out with my buddy friday and we shot his new 15-22 (mine is on its way back to S&W for extractor mods). We had pretty good luck with his. Fired 300 rounds or so, mostly winchester wildcats. Had may 6 FTFs with solid hammer strikes, however, one wildcat went bang before the round was fully seated in the chamber. The case ruptured and the brass splayed out in an interesting fashion. After that I ran a cleaning rod through it and proceded to fire another 100 rounds or so without incident. Hopefully that won't happen with mine.

Bang

Mine went bang in my face.
I shoot left handed.
When it had the OOB it blew overything in my face.
I was not injured but it splattered everything in
my face and destroyed the shell casing, the ejector and spring were gone. Sent it back and it came back in about 3 weeks.
Shoots great now. I still have to be very careful in loading the mags.

My 15-22 has had an OOB, and sent the extractor off somewhere. OOBs in semi auto .22s are not unusual, and are not limited to just S&W.

Another good reason to wear shooting glasses.

I had an oob experience. The extractor and spring was lost in that event.

Please excuse my ignorance but can someone explain what an "OOB" is. This might have happened when I lost my extractor. Something exploded in my face. The shell was split, destroyed. Not a good experience.

I think they mean Out Of Battery by this. Never seen it until today!

Rim fires can do this fairly easily if the rim gets crushed during a misfeed. I had it happen to my '51 Ruger .22LR Pistol due to a deformed chamber from firing pin peening of one edge.

Yes, you had an OOB. (Out of battery). Again, safety glasses are a real good idea when shooting.

bought my mp15-22 thursday and in the first 50 rounds I had a oob. ejector and spring blew out. not what you want with a 450.00 new gun.

no dont know where they went to. I had jams and ftf right from the start. bent up 30 rounds that I could not shoot. this one was bad right from the start.

i guess this happened to me also. the shell was stuck in the barrel, spring, and extractor blew out the ejection port. when the spent casing was pulled out, it was split where the primer rim meets the cylinder. basically like a flap. i went through about 450 rounds of winchester xpert-hv without a problem. was this just bad luck of the draw or is this crappy ammo?

I think it's very easy not to notice when loading the mag if one of the rounds does not stagger back and forth like they are supposed to be. I had to reload my mag a first, second, and third time before it looked right. Like I've read elsewhere in these forums, you have to pull down the load assist buttons only enough to load one round at a time and when you're done visually inspect the mag all around to see if all rounds are staggered. I had one mag loaded and it looked pretty good, then I noticed one of the 25 rounds was setting straight up and down on top of another round, emptied the mag and started over. Very picky mags, one must be patient and careful when loading each round. Just my 2 cents on why this may be happening.

Sounds like you may have had an OOB (out of battery) occurance. Shell not all the way in the chamber when it was discharged. The pressure instead of being in the chamber took out the extractor, spring, etc.

OOBs are not uncommon on semi automatics. Any make of gun.

Very good reason to wear shooting eyewear.

Mine did the same thing. A few minutes of holding snow on my face took care of the burning sensation. The ejector, plunger, and spring were also gone from the gun. I sent mine gun back a few days ago but it'll probably be a month before I see it again.
