I was having a host of failure to eject and double feeds, that lead up to the extractor claw, guide rod and spring blowing out of the pistol in a rather spectacular failure. No one was hurt, thankfully.
I returned that to S&W and they returned to me after five weeks, with new parts replacing those that were lost, no other repairs mentioned.
I experienced the same issues with random failures (FTE and double feeds) with all three factory magazines, with four different standard and High Velocity brands of ammo. I tore down and cleaned the action, then bent the ejector less than 1 mm toward the center of the chamber, as I'd read on other threads. Reassembly and function checks were a go.
Happy to report a clean ejection now, every time it shoots. It shoots well, with one issue: it doesn't fire on the last round in a magazine nearly all the time. I ran about 500 rounds through three factory magazines and excepting a few times with one magazine, the last round loads, the pistol appears to be in battery, trigger drops the hammer with an audible fall, yet the LAST ROUND in the magazine doesn't fire. There is no visible strike on these rounds, so it isn't a light strike. I have one magazine that fired five shots without issue three times in a row, but then didn't fire the 5th round.
I didn't note any issue loading the rounds, burs or other obvious defects on the mags, but two of three do it every time, loaded with one, two--5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 rounds. I started loading smaller round counts down to 1 and then up to 10. Same result, 99% of the time last round doesn't fire and has no visible firing pin hit, but sounds like the hammer dropped. Those rounds, reloaded into the pistol will fire if they are not the last round.
Two of the factory magazine followers have a white line on the top of the followers, while one is almost completely back.
I will tear down and clean the mags this evening but I don't see any obvious reason for the white lines on two and don't understand why I'm getting these consistent last round Failure to Fire, no obvious primer strike (not even any light ones that I can see). Very weird. Happens despite trying multiple ammo options, Standard and HV, lead or copper coated.
Anyone have similar issues? I want to use this otherwise accurate and target sight equipped pistol for Bullseye use. Can't have it failing to fire last round in a magazine 99% of the time.
