If you call trying to tweak it so it'll cycle Federal 750 bulk a problem then I guess I've developed a problem.

No problems to report. I have run Remington Golden Bullet, Olin surplus, CCI mini-mag and blazer and Federal bulk with a couple of FTEs, but no other problems.

My vote is "B". I checked this forum before buying my 15-22. Was somewhat leery about it but got one anyway. Never had a problem with it (touch wood) except for a couple of a couple of smoke stacks and a dud round or two.

Howdy, I found your site(thank God)after buying mine and having problems. I started mine out on Remington(didn't know better), but am having a little better luck on Winchester. When I get thru the next 200 I'm going to try the federals. FTE,FTF, some other issues along that line, still working it out. Purchased in March, have app.700 rounds thru it. Love the gun, did a super job of tricking it out. I'm going to try the ejector spring tweak this weekend, if that doesn't work I'm going to send it in.......The 7# trigger takes getting used to(my 1st black gun)...Thinking about one of those J&P spring kits before trying the 15 min(AR)trigger job. Great site, posts and contributers, you guys are GREAT!

B. for the 15-22. I found the forum because I was researching problems with my M&P 15.

I'm glad I found the forum though, I just finished installing the JP3.5 trigger spring set on the 15-22. Can't wait to try it out.

I'm in C. My rifle did the FTE and OOB thing with less than 400 rounds. Up to that point, it was flawless. Being new to AR's, this was a complete surprise to me- a jam, sure, but firing OOB, surprise! Contacted Smith/Wesson and my local gun shop (where I bought the gun) sent it back for me. I'm reading up on the issue now. I'm not sure whether the ammo that caused the presumed FTE was Federal or Remington as there were a few Rem's left in the "bag o' shells". The OOB was Federal, but that shell was just an innocent bystander since something else caused the jam.

This is an actual jam and that's a live round in the chamber:

I just finished the first 550 box of Federal Balk out of my Magpul Edition (blue springs) over 5 range sessions. I have not cleaned or oiled the gun since the initial cleaning before I shot it the first time. The only issue was a failure to fully eject round 27.

I'm using the Bushnell Acog look-alike reddot with the red/green T-dot. I'm shooting about a 1.5 inch group (inside the dot) off a range bag rest at 50yds. Clays are not safe at 50yds offhand. My last 10 shots today were off hand at clays set at about 45 yds; it was 10 for 10 in 5-8 seconds total time.

I want to say I really like the short 10 rd mags. While the 25 rd mags are OK..... I would like to see Smith come out with a shorter 15-20 rd mag.

My overall impression "This gun is a hoot to shoot......"

mp 15-22 vote thread

well, after much reading and much research @ s/n #'s and early editon DTX problems. i ordered one 8811032 15-22 and ended up with the DTX prefix. the gun finally arrived early this week, 'cuz the dealer misplaced my order. my ffl guy has it now and i still need to complete the paperwork and 10 day wait. after all that i still end up w/a DTX?! many with this s/n have been rock solid, others ick. should i just send it to the factory when i get it?

If you haven't actually completed paperwork and bought it, you might want to consider going for a current version. I have one of the DTX's that was/is rock solid, so to me a DTX isn't a problem but obviously others have had issues.

Ditto this.. I've got a DTX with thousands of rounds through it and I can count the total number of malfunctions (fte/ftf) on my fingers. Whatever your decision you can find comfort in knowing that S&W will take care of your firearm for you if there are problems.

Phil, I think you are right - that S&W got it right - and the new ones are probably very low error rate.

So far at least, I have about 600-700 rounds through my rifle, and the ONLY problem I have had is a few FTE, and the random FTF, BUT those were ALL in using the non recommended crap Remington brand. Used federal bulk and so far not one issue.

On a side note I have found it is cheaper in the long run to buy the Federal 375 bulk packs as they are about $11.17 at my local Wal-mart, and the 550 packs are $19.28. Now after all taxes are applied( 6 cents per dollar here in Ky.) for roughly the same ammount of money, I can get 550 rounds of Federal in one bulk pack.. or TWO packs of Federal 375 bulk packs, and I wind up getting 750 rounds instead of 550. Just food for thought.

If you have oob or such, return it, and it will return better than ever. If you don't, nice. But the only problem I have experienced, sn dtu, is the oh so common mag snag. Still haven't returned for the gen 2 mod.
