I'm lusting after the new handguard. Our exchange rate (nominally R15: $1) and the import costs (roughly 24:1 sometimes as high as 40:1) and our licensing system (have to show need, limited numbers allowed, 6 month waiting) means I'm more or less stuck with my original 15-22.

However I have come across someone who has recently purchased a Sport and wants a quadrail.

Is there anything preventing a handguard swap? Swapping rifles is out, swapping uppers is a grey area, but mine has almost 15k through it and hisnis new so I doubt he'd want a swap anyway. But swapping hand guards? Easy peasy, legally. Are there any other things that could trip us up?

We are aware of how to clamp 15-22s and the tools required.

Only way to be 100% positive is to call S&W customer service. Report back once you find out.

I asked and they said no.

They are drop in. It worked fantastically. Other guy is happy with his Quad, I'm happy with my "Sport".

S&W customer service also said you can't remove the barrel nut.
So I came up with a wrench and all the other special goodies.
They are a direct swap.

Now we need a way of purchasing the Sport M-Lok handguard. Why won't S&W sell these???
They're not big into selling parts or allowing customization.
Someone is going to have a big talk with the decision makers.
So for now you have to go to the aftermarket company that helps you do whatever you want and with better parts.
Aluminum free float hand guards in lots of different lengths with KeyMod or M-LOK

Yes someone does.

Possibly if there was an option that didn't require permanent modifications to the receiver. The stock Sport handguard would just be a swap.

The standard converter requires no modification of your upper.
The modified leaves some of the top indexing tab so if you do put the factory plastic hand guard back on it won't turn.
Either option is reversible.
