While I love my S&W 15-22 to death, I sadly have quite a few 22 rimfires filling identical roles as the 15-22, but not a single centerfire gun. I wanted to trade the rifle with some parts in for either a centerfire carbine (M1/mini 14) or a .380 pistol like a Walther PK380.

Rifle is the standard 15-22 with no compensator.
Accessories:
-Promag Picatinney rail covers
-3x 25 round magazines
-Konus 3x9 scope
-Promag aluminum optics riser

What do you think I could get out of it?

You're not gonna like this.... but I would be surprised if a shop will give you $250 in trade. Just too many out there and prices are all over the place with different versions with different problems.

yeah^

i don't know vermonts laws, but gunshow/private sale is the best way to recoup most of you money.

Hmmmm... Vermont... we're close enough I'll give ya $250... even $300..... I have one now, but would love another... that way I can shoot one now and then instead of having to beg my wife to shoot hers.. :)

Drats, I was worried you guys would suggest that!

For the $250 range, I think I'll just hang on to it. I saw used M&P 15-22's being sold for $399 at the local gunshop, so I was hoping for a bit more, but now that I think about it $250 sounds more like what I would really get for it.

Unfortunately, I suspect the local gun shop where you saw the used 15-22 going for $399 probably paid the previous owner ~$180-200 for it. Also, $399 is too much for a used 15-22. I bought mine new for $400. Selling it private sale is the only way to go if you want to get any $$$ out of it. Most gun shops make their money from selling used guns, i.e. buy cheap, sell high and I've rarely got anything but a crappy trade-in on anything I've ever traded. My lack of patience has always gotten the better of me. Either keep it, or sell it to someone.

BTW, I'd have to sell my 15-22 for ~$1000 to get my money back :D

Most times, desired price sale of a used weapon is more in the mind of the seller than it is in the mind of a prosepective buyer.

My wife made me sell mine because I bought a m&p15T:mad: I sold it with a $10 jp spring kit, $20 scope, 4 magazines, UTG folding foregrip, ncstar laser, ncstar riser, and no iron sights for $500 cash. Took 3 weeks and re-listed it twice but usually someone will bite. I would've sold it for 4 but the guy loved it and didn't even try to deal. Start high and try your local paper first. My local paper has free online only listings so it didn't even cost me anything to list, maybe you've got something like that n your parts? If that doesn't work maybe try a gunshow or two. Best of luck to you.

Thanks very much for the help guys. I think I"ll try listing it in the regional paper for "$400 or trade for centerfire carbine". Shame craigslist doesn't allow you to list firearms, that has much more exposure and is cheaper then the local paper.

A good way to trade, buy or sell is Armslist.com IT is completely free and a good place to find other firearms that you are interested in.

No problem.I am addicted to armslist.com I am always checking for a good deal

When I sold mine for $500 wife was making me sell it. So I figured I'd put a price on it I'd be willing to let it go for. Didn't think anyone would want it for that much. I agree xtras done mean alot, but $75 worth of magazines does make a difference. Still hurt to get rid of it. Even though I replaced it with a 15t and a 10/22 I still want my baby back:(

Be careful about selling to someone who does not live in your State of residence. There are some ATF rules about selling. Check them out and make sure you are in compliance.
I think the 15-22 fills a role most others cannot. It is a spot on trainer for the AR platform. Others are close at best.

Not sure on trade in but as others have said you can get new shipped for around $425 right now (buds???) for what its worth I had a PK 380 bought used for $275 -no complaints as such- nice gun easy to shoot and fairly compact - but ended up trading in for a Kel-tec P3AT. The PK380 is a fine gun, but is not accurate enough for a range gun, and too big relative to the stopping power for for concealed use - if your going to go for Walther for concealed carry take a look at the P99 or PPS - or if you want an ultra small .380 PPK - just my 2c.

don't take offense but $400 for a second hand 15-22 is not a good deal ..........you can get brand new for $450. xtras mean nothing ........just saying .

Yea, good point, I'll list it for $375ish.

I'd love a PPS or P99, but I would rather get a pistol my girlfriend can shoot too. She loves my P22, and this looks to be a reasonable step up for something she can shoot (and possibly one day carry).

Before you buy the PK380 - maybe have her try the Kel-tec p3at or Ruger LCP - she may be surprise at how easy these things are to shoot - and they are so small you can carry them in your sock, in your pocket - in shorts, a small clutch bag or purse (well not me but you know) making it an easy daily cc. The PK380 was ok but at 19oz -v- 8oz for keltec I was just not able to carry it as much as I would have liked and for the size I could get something that would have much better stopping power - again just my opinion - but having bought and then quickly traded in a PK380 I am just sharing my experience.
