15-3 4” price?

I'm looking at a mid-run (going off the serial number) blue 4" 15-3. It doesn't show like it's been shot a lot, very little wear on the ejector rod, excellent color case on the hammer/trigger, original grips with some light marks on top of the right panel, grip frame shows no signs of rust or refinish marks. Bore and chambers look good.

Besides the marks on the one grip panel there is a slight rub mark on the right side of the barrel and a very small rust spot on one side of the front sight blade. I'm not very good at grading revolvers but to me it's an easy 90%. Timing and lock up are great plus it has a very smooth action.

The best non-negotiable price presented to me is $600 plus our silly state mandated ffl/background check fees.

I've never owned a 15 but have shot a number that friends own. I know without photos it hard to say but I'm wondering if that's a fair price. On GB completed sales have a wide range. Thanks for any help.

I'm certainly no expert, but $600 beans doesn't sound too bad. This is still a pinned barrel gun. I don't think you see too many model 15s come up for sale either... Some people I know swear by these guns saying they are one of the best S&W shooting guns around and very accurate...

About 3-4 years ago I bought a 15-3 from a Forum member for $450, I'm pretty sure. S&W did a real nice job with the blueing; very deep & shiny. The gun is an excellent shooter. If I were looking for a purchase I'd pay the $600. Good luck.

I just found a 1975 15-3 a week and a half ago at a LGS with incorrect--but original--non-relieved diamond target stocks in its original box with paperwork for $450. It had belonged to a cop and they were asking $500 but I noticed the PO had used a bit of black paint to touch up some bluing wear at the muzzle so the shop owner knocked off $50. Someone put white paint on the sights but that's easily remedied. It is in overall very good condition and IMO was a pretty good score at that price.

2 cents...If the gun functions well I would buy it. I am in OK and it would be worth 600 here. My only regrets are wishing I had purchased guns I had passed on...

Rust turns me off, but if it is as slight as you say, and truly in your stated condition, buy it. The 15 is one of S&W's best efforts

Seems like a fair price. Although I am never looking for 4" 15s (just 2"), I found a beautiful nickel 4" earlier this year and jumped on it for about $700.

In my opinion the model 15 was one of S&Ws best revolvers. About 15 years ago I picked up a Model 67 no dash.
About a week after I bought the 67 the same dealer took in a very nice 15-3. While I appreciate the advantages of stainless steel there is something about the deep blue of a factory finish of that era.

I just paid a little more than $600 for a nice 14-3 so $600 for a 15-3 seems reasonable.

I sold my 15-3 to a Forum Member right here on the for sale sub-forum in September 2021 for exactly $600 and that was shipped to a C&R holder from me (also a C&R holder). I think it cost me $23.00 for shipping.

Mine was a 1969 (confirmed by Roy if I recall) ship date. The serial number pic shows the PC grips it came to me with, the other pics are of the Targets that fit my hand better. I can't recall if the PC's were serial #'d to the gun, but I think not

Anyway...now a year plus later I think the $600 would be a fair deal, little less if it's only very small surface rust that will come right off with a little oil and elbow grease.

They really are nice shooters with 38 Spl!

I bought my 1974 15-3 seven years ago at a local live auction on a bid of $575. Over $600 out the door. 98% finish with grips numbered to the revolver. I was able to look it over well pre-auction so I knew it would go high. probably paid too much at the time but was bidding against another person and I wanted it!

Very doubtful. PC Magnas didn't usually come on a 4" Combat Masterpiece. They were standard on the 2" variant.

Never regretted buying my 15 back around 1980. It's taken a lot of small game with HBWC's.

$600 is a fair price. You shouldn't loose money. I sold mine once and bought it back a few years later for $100 more.

I saw a 2" 15 at the gun show last Saturday. Decent shape but had some wear. I passed at $ 650. This thread is making me wonder if I should have picked it up. Incidentally I bought a 2 1/2 inch 66 and a DS off this seller 2 weeks ago. Both these guns were in better shape.
