Does anyone know much about these? I found one on Fl online gun show. He is willing to take ammo or cash, asking $500. He is sending me more pictures, he only had one posted. I have a mod14-4 and thought this would be a nice addition.

Well, I think that the Model 15 is one of Smith and Wesson's finest revolvers. It is a superb "Service Revolver" that will serve it's owner in any way one can be served with the ubiquitous 38 special cartridge. The 15-3 is the third variation of the model line that was introduced in 1949. It probably is the one most produced over the life of the gun and will handle any 38 spl. round very well.

$500 is ok if the gun is in exceptional condition or if it has accessories with it. It could be a little high otherwise, although, the gun is climbing in price/value as more folks collect them and find that they are one of the best 38 revolvers out there. I really like mine and would part with many other guns before I would part with my model 15. As I said, if the gun is in very good condition or has some nice accessories, it might be worth the five bills that is being asked for it.

I recently bought a two inch, nickel in excellent condition, no box, etc. for $400 plus tax from a LGS.

Man o man! That is great! I am unable to find those kind of deals where I live. I just don't know it's the state, region or just being "out west" but that nickel 2" in the condition you show would go for at least $500 here in Oregon, in my opinion. Maybe it's just because I'm in a small town with little competion; two gun stores that sell "used" guns. But, overall, that 2" nickel would be quite a bit more than the $400 you paid for it here in Oregon. Great deal for you. Perhaps, North Carolina is a "better place to be."

I have a 15-3 that I got in an auction last year for about $275. It was a service revolver (has SCPD on frame). It is absolutely tight, with shiny bore and chambers, but is finish-challenged, although better looking in person than in the pictures.

Unless it is in super condition, it just seems a bit high to me.

Unless, it is extremely clean, has box, papers, tools.

The sweetest revolver I've ever owned was a 15-3 in immaculate condition, bought unfired from an estate. I paid $300, but that was ten years ago.

It's a superb handgun.
