15 years ago today a friend and I started a great 7 day adventure rafting down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. It may well have been the greatest week of my life. Camping out at night and watching the greatest sky, good food, the river, and the most unbelievable scenery that just keeps going and going. It was a great spot for flashlight testing also.

We also met a guy from Australia and he has been back here 4 times to visit us. Our group also included 2 kids from Austria, a retired sub commander, a cop from Berkley, a young lady mural artist from SF, a mother-daughter from Cleveland and a farm couple from Mn and some other interesting folks.

A river trip through The Canyon would be an adventure of a lifetime. I've only been on the north and south rims, and a couple of short hikes down the south rim. It's always beautiful.

I am wanting to take a quad ride to the north rim from mesquite or st. george. It would be a big day each way. There is a dude ranch near the north rim in the middle of no where, has a air strip. They have covered wagons with beds and fix you breakfast etc. Trying to find another friend to go along. You dont want to be by yourself a hundred miles from nowhere if your quad breaks down!

I believe that dude ranch is the Bar 10 Ranch. When our trip was over, they lifted us out of the canyon on a chopper and took us on a short flight to the ranch. There we could take a shower and clean up before they flew us in Otters or other small planes back to Vegas. The people who were then getting on our boat for a 4 day trip were carried on the same choppers out to the canyon. I believe they were brought to the ranch the night before and slept in those covered wagon things.

Best part of our GC trip, besides the grandeur of the canyon itself, was along the roads in and out of the area. Every 10 miles or so we ran into a roadside market where Chief so-and-so was selling Native American jewelry. We even checked to make sure none of it was manufactured in China or Mexico.:D

The GC is amazing, I saw it in person while riding my motorcycle cross country, photos do not do it justice. I cannot believe people will vacation in a Mexican beach, but have never seen the wonders of this great Country.

I had to laugh ladder. I wanted to pick up a blanket for my wife, they were made in China. No blankie for her!

The GC is simply amazing. When we approached the south rim from the east we stopped at the first lookout. My jaw dropped in awe. Words and pics don't even come close to desribing the GC. I'd like to get back there and do the same trip as last time. The GC, then Bryce, Zion and down to Vegas.
All my vacations are inside the US, there's so much to see it'll take the rest of my lifetime.
