I put a 8 3/8 in barrel 17-1 on layaway from a local shop. Can any one tell me how rare that barrel length is in a 17-1. Thanks forcany help.

I've always wondered if getting at 8 3/8" barrel wouldn't be a good idea for a marksman like me, as it would get me much closer to the target!
Be careful, powder burns on a paper target can be a fire hazard...Remember what Smokey said, "Only you can prevent range fires"...:p...Ben

I can't give you a specific answer but about 5 years ago I decided to collect Model 17's with 8-3/8" barrels in 17, 17-1, 17-2, 17-3, and 17-4. The Model 17-1 was the last one I acquired and took forever.

Not many 17-1's made at all compared to the K22's and other dash numbers. I would guess that a 8.375" -1 would be scarce if not rare.

I have only seen a handful of them in that barrel length. I picked up a model 48 years ago when i was in my early 20's same barrel length. Never gaveca thought about it at the time. Just wanted any smith revolver i could find at the time.....guess im still that way.

I passed up an 8-3/8 model 17-3 a while back
been kicking my self every time I think about it
