17-9 question

Looking at a slightly used 17-9 on a local swap forum. Owner says it was purchased new. It has rubber grips on it. Are they coming from the factory with rubber grips? I assumed they all came with wood grips.

Asking 825 for it, is that a fair price. Only condition issue is slight cylinder ring from about 200 rounds of shooting.

Older verions often cost less online, and may have some value as a collectible in the future, although that is always a crapshoot.

For a K-frame, grips of your choice are easy to find on ebay. Guns with wood grips sell better online, so that may be why you are seeing that..

You may want some form of target grips with the Model 17 if you intend to shoot it frequently.

I put factory target grips on my Model 17 and 18, but that does not mean they are the best, or most ergonomic grips for anyone else. I would say, buy the gun you want, and spend an extra $50 on grips that suit you,

You have not posted a photo of any grips, so even if the revolver left the factory with rubber grips installed we would have no way of telling you if they were correct or not

Did you ask the seller if he had changed the grips, as the original owner he should know how it left the Factory

All that being said, that revolver should have left the factory with wood grips just like the Model 17 from that link that was posted above

Im going to look at it tonight. The pictures on the internet really are not worth sharing, not great quality. He claims he bought it new with rubber grips. I questioned this as I thought they came from the factory with wood grips. Thank you for the input

Pistol did come with original wood grips and a set of hogue rubber grips. Really nice gun. Added it to my collection!
