Took my new/used 17-9 on first outing. The gun ran everything I put through it. Winchester PowerPoints, Federal classic, auto match, Walley world bulk ammo, Armscor, Remington gold & SV,& Cci SV. All shot 1 1/2"-2" groups averaged with wrists rested on sandbags at 50'. The most surprising thing was without cleaning the cylinder everything extracted without effort is nice . I put a pair of combats from Thailand on for the trial. I'm pleased, going to throw an optic on to help find it's most accurate and see if it's good enough to ride in the shoulder holster in the grouse woods.

Sounds like you got a good one! I put those same Thai combats on one of my K-frames only the wood is a real dark brown that shows up almost like ebony. I had to do a little shimming on mine because the fit got sloppy, but for the price they are great. My Smith 22s have mostly extracted well... only one was a problem and a friend liked it enough to overlook that problem.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

Nice revolver, I have a 17-4 with an 8-3/8" barrel, put Culina walnut target grips on it.

Over the years I've never noticed any K22 to have a dramatic ammo preference, which seems odd compared to the little Kit Guns. They definitely seem to be ammo sensitive.

My old standard for K22s was 1.5 inches at 25-yards, and I don't believe I ever owned one that didn't pass. These days, I don't think I can see well enough to do that. :o

Are you planning on a little reflex sight or a telescope? I have a Deltapoint on a Model 629. A friend and I were experimenting with it at 100 yards. He whacked a clay bird twice with three shots. I don't know which of us was more surprised. ;) And that was with plain, lead cast bullets. :)

Nice K22 and stocks! Hope you enjoy it! :)

I don't plan to put any optics on any of my revolvers. I have 19 now and can, at 81, still see the front sights enough to hit a target at 25 yds. It has been a while since I shot at 50 but I think I can probably still keep them in the scoring rings. I can thank tri-focals for that! I have had to shift from a 6 o'clock hold to center hold. Good shooting all.

Good to see I'm not the only one liking the new 17-9. Lock or not, it's still a great gun. Got mine a few months ago. I didn't care for the stock grips and ordered a set of smooth target grips directly from S&W. Very pleased with them.
