Can a model 17 .22 LR cylinder fit in a Model 48? Would fitting be required?

The dimensions of the two cylinders (model 17 and 48) make this "conversion" possible. Considerable fitting may be required to reconcile the front and rear gauges, yoke clearance, and proper function of the hand ratchet interface of the add on .22 rimfire cylinder.
If a "new" OEM cylinder is sourced for the project, the ratchets on the extractor will have to be cut/fit to fit the existing hand.
