Anybody have any feedback on the 17 round mec-gar magazines. Just picked up a 5926 from iammo and need a few spare magazines.

I am somewhat inclined to go with the 15 round magazines because that was what was originally designed for the gun. That being said, if the 17 round mags work just as well, I may just go with them for the plus 2 capability.

I did notice that the magazines from 3rd gen 9mm's are the same height as a 17 round M&P magazine, but not as wide. This theoretically makes a stack of 17 in a 3rd gen mag taller than a stack of 17 in an M&P leaving less room for the follower and spring at the bottom of the magazine - hence my question.

For me it's Mec Gar or factory for pistols, MagPull for ARs, none of my money goes elsewhere.

Magazines are NOT the ace to save money.

I have been using mec-gar 17 round mags in my 5906 and they work as good as the factory mags. Mec-gar and factory mags are the only mags I buy for 3rd Gen Smiths.

Thanks deanodog.

I had been planning on buying mec-gar mags, the questions was more on the 15 round vs the 17 round. Specifically, I would like to just go with the 17 round mags unless there is any question on the reliability. I am guessing given mec-gar's reputation that the 17 round mags should be fine.

Apparently deanodog is the only one with an opinion?

I have Mec-Gar and S&W mags, the mec-gar mags work but not as good as the S&W mags. Mec-gar is way better than other after market mags but not perfect , the draw bar rubs on them. They are wider at the top than S&W mags . Here's some pics , look close.

I wouldn't mind trying some MecGar 17s for mine - but they always seem to be out of stock.

I don't worry about the 15s I do have, though, they load, feed, and drop without issues. :D

I have 2 17-round mec-gars for my 5906 and have a mind to buy 4-6 more. I also have 4 15-round and 2 20-round mec-gars for it and all function flawlessly, literally 100% reliable.

cpeblue,

Is the black colored magazine a 17 round? Just wondering if that is the reason it is wider at the top?

Yes, 17 and I don't have a 15rd Mec-Gar to compare. They function fine just not as smooth as the S&W mags. I myself would hunt down S&W mags .

I've used the 17 round Mec-Gar magazines in my 5906 with no problems of any kind.

17 rounders are in stock at Midway, $23.99. They have been out of stock/no backorder for monhs.
