I picked up this 4 screw 18 yesterday, and was wondering if someone can tell me what year it was made,(k3942xx) I think '57 or'58. It's in excellent condition with the main wear being the turn line, but this will get shot, and hopefully soon. I did clean it, and removed the grips. The #'s stamped on the grips match except the last digit. The last digit on the grips is one higher then the # stamped on the gun. Was this just perhaps someone's mistake when it was put together? Thanks in advance.

S&N make it look like 1960. Probably an error with the grips, but the question is when - before or after finishing. Do the grips look like a perfect fit, or just close?
(Someone who knows more about the exact manufacturing sequence may pipe up and let us both know that there can only be one answer. We shall see.)

The grip fit is amazing! perfect fit at every corner and contour.

Not surprising. They are surely original. Although I know very little about the actual sequence (I think that someone did post about it once), my understanding is that small errors like this are not all that uncommon.

congratulations as that is one beautiful model 18 and I'm sure you are going to love it.
