1899 Target

What condition would one of these have to be in to be worth $1000? A LGS has one that I'd rate at 65% finish and I'm just curious. 6 1/2" barrel and numbered grips.

In my opinion, it is worth $500.00 tops. It would have to be over 90% to even come close for me to put out $1000.00.

Is it a Factory 'Target'? Or one which someone converted at some point along the way?

Target sights on that model carry a 2 to 3 times price premium if factory. Going higher than $500 would not be out of the realm of a fair price depending on what the gun looks like. One gun with 65% finish is not always the same as another gun with the same amount. It depends on whether there are dents or rust and abuse, etc.

I have the same question as Oyeboteb above. Also is it a pre war sight?
If so, an easy way to verify if the sights are factory original is to remove the rear sight and see if it's numbered matching to the gun on the underside.

From what I've seen following threads on this forum I think the sights are correct. Though for that kind of money I'd want a guarantee that a factory letter would back up the claim. I did not notice pitting, just blue loss. I did not check the bore or actually handle the revolver as the dealer was busy and I was not likely to buy that night anyway, so I did not want to waste his time.
