A family member has acquired a very nice 2.5" blued 19-3. Looking for ship/build date and any other interesting gouge. Original box and manual. Serial # 8K81056. It is in pristine shape. I know, I know, pictures are needed. Soon to follow.

It's a 1975 shipped gun, and is worth the most of standard model 19 barrel lengths. Most would avoid full 125 gr .357s in it due to excessive stress on the forcing cone (some differ on this issue but new barrels are no longer available). Looking forward to the photos.

I have two model 19s, a 4" with no dash and a 19-4 California Highway Patrol Commemorative. I agree with Alan, I shoot both and will not shoot anything with less than a 158 grain bullet. Both are in pristine condition and some will say that I shouldn't shoot the 19-4 but I don't own a firearm in my collection that is safe to shoot that I don't shoot. I might mention that the 19 is 1958 vintage and the 19-4 is 1979.

Most likely shipped the latter part of 1976, maybe Oct/Nov time frame.

Alk8944. I was just trying to collect interesting info to pass on. Someone saying "it is the best piece of gear ever" or "that year and model are highly sought" or good tidbits from other owners.

Not to be contrary (but I guess I am) the 8K serial numbers were issued over a period of three years, as follows:

8K1 - 8K20,763 = 1975
8K20,764 - 8K80,000 = 1976
8K80,001 - 8K99,999 = 1977

The listings in the SCSW 3d cannot be relied upon in this serial range.

Shipping dates are another matter altogether. However, shipment of a gun numbered over 8K80,000 would be highly unlikely before 1977.

any other interesting gouge.[/QUOTE

Well ya left yourself wide open with that comment:). So here goes, many of us, myself included, happen to believe that a 2 1/2" M-19/66 is about the ideal all around revolver. In as if I could only have one what should it be. Thank goodness we are not there yet.

I'm lucky enough to have some very nice "classic'' Smith and Wesson revolvers, and my 2 1/2" M-19/66's will be the last I ever gift or sell.

Okay. For just the sheer pleasure of it, I'll post a picture. Love this one, especially since I added the ivory . . . :)

Still working on the pictures.
Is it common to have the Spanish equivalent of "trademark" directly beneath the Made in USA line? Marcas Registradas.

Never mind.
I really should do about 15 seconds of research before I post...
