I picked me up a nice 19-4 today in nickel serial # 46k18## anyone have approximate date of manufacture? Anything I should know about this model? Best load for it? I'm assuming 125 gr .357 is out being a k frame? also is 158 gr magnums ok? The grips are numbered to the gun so I guess original? Thanks....I'm a sucker for nickel!

158 grain .357 loads are fine in a M19. Where the 125 grain .357 loads got the bad rap is that if you do a lot of shooting with that load, especially rapid fire, you get a lot of flame cutting in the top strap.
When the Combat Magnum was introduced, it was intended to be shot a lot with .38 special loads and with only a few .357s. When police departments started doing more shooting, as opposed to a once a year qualification, and using the 125 grain Magnum duty loads, that's when some M19s and M66s started failing.

I load mine with 12gr. of 2400 "14gr. is a max 357 load"and a 160 gr. boolit. it makes a great all around load. it is about like a 38+p+ load. but I shoot more 38s usually,,,,,,,,,,,,,
That is correct; .38 special loads are fine. A few 125 grain .357s won't hurt a K frame .357. Just use them sparingly.
