1905 4th change restore.

I am trying to restore an old M&P,1905,4th change and have run into a snag.The gun will not operate double action but will work fine single action.I have taken it down and it appears someone has "worked on" the double action sear.Can I re-cut this sear to make the gun work or do I need to buy another sear?

You can't recut the double action sear. That is the single action notch that you see on the hammer.

Double action works by the sear on the trigger pushing against the DA sear (that large piece on the front of the hammer that is spring loaded). As the trigger is pulled, the hammer is forced back, the hand rotates the cylinder, and then as the cycle is completed, the trigger sear comes out from under the DA sear and the hammer goes forward.

Thank you but I am talking about the double action sear;the sear mounted on the face of the hammer to work the action in double action.Just looking at the bottom of the sear where it contacts the trigger it appears that the angle of this surface could be modified as it relates to the trigger.I think someone flattened this one out so that when the trigger is pulled the double action sear is striking the trigger too flat.What I would like to know is can I modify the basal angle of this sear to give proper engagement as it contacts the trigger ?
