What do you guys think this 1905 4th Change is worth?

- Heavy pre-nickel polish over original blue
- Nickel is still pretty good but includes hammer and trigger
- Clevland, OH Police Dept. I think
- Jay Scott grips are obvious
- Looks like the LERK is gnarled up pretty good

Any comments welcome, I didn't buy it yet.
Thanks,
Jeb

First, not a LERK, that tip is a "MERK" although that is NOT an official term ;) That is the so called "mushroom" knob and correct for that era. If you look at the flat under the barrel, there is a small capital "B" to the left, which indicates the gun likely shipped blue, FWIW.

Aside from the grips not being original, they are also not period correct. Originally the gun likely had convex non-medallion grips since it is early to mid 1920s, based on SN. Period correct aftermarket grips are better to have IMO than later aftermarket grips.

IMO its worth $300 to $350, mostly due to the LE connection.

Hello OP, keep looking. $300 is way to much for a very common gun.
Especially for one of this condition and extent of modification. But, if it makes you happy and have the money, buy it. I take it this is a private sale? Best

Too bad this gun lost its original stocks and finish. I'd easily pay $300 to $400 for an all-original mid-20s Cleveland PD gun with both the backstrap marking and cartouche, even with lots of wear. But like this, maybe $250.

Re-plated over blue, hammer and trigger plated, wrong stocks and gnarled LERK. Collector value is nil. As a shooter it is probably a $200-$300 gun. The police connection is cool but again that falls to the collector realm which we have already determined is nil.

Personally, I would pass and add that $200- $300 to the price on a better gun that had both collector value and condition. JMHO and it's worth exactly what you paid for it. ;)
