1911 100 year anniversary edition

Is anyone gonna buy a 1911 next year to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the 1911? I am planning on buying a 1911 but was wondering if any manufacturer was going to have a commemerative model before I decided which one to buy or if I should even wait for it??? Has anyone heard anything??

I have been waiting for 2011, too. I will buy a Colt, IF it is exactly like the first original 1911 pistols. I have two early originals, 34XX and C16XX, and I know how they are supposed to be. If Colt tries to pass off a lesser pistol, then they can keep it.

I am looking forward to see what the manu's come out with, I am only afraid that I will not be able to afford the one that I may want, I dont own a 1911 and would really like to have 1 (at least) but do not think i can justify an outrageously expensive "safe queen" so i hope they are decently priced?!?!

I have 3 Colts, a 1911 gov, a Factory "Enhansed" gov, and a 70 series that is Wilson Combat tuned.....all are Stainess ..all are unfired.......Damn they look good in the Safe

I have a decent "shooter" in the 10,XXX range that dates from 1913, so that's close enough for me.

If Colt is smart enough there will be a nice, affordable 100th anniversary 1911--but that's not a sure thing by any means.

And if the US military was smart they'd re-adopt it with the addition of good sights and a good trigger.

No offense intended with the safe queen comment!! I would love to have a safe full of never fired guns!!!! I just dont have the self restraint to pay thousands for a gun and then never shoot it!! I love the looks of the 1911 and will own at least a couple before it is all said and done, but for right now I want one I wont feel guilty about using! Being a young guy (mid 20's) I have fairly shallow pockets so price is always a factor!!!

Some of Colt's recently produced retro guns - WW1 and 1920's types - are pretty nice though their quality control has been spotty. I suspect that a 100 year commemorative would cost over $1000.00. I think I would pass unless it was extraordinarily nice and unusual. There are too many desirable Smiths that I want more and I already have a few 1911's.

I expect to see many manufactures persent a commemerative model. Commemerative's are nice eye candy but I wouldnt buy one, there just to costly and dont hold there value overtime. I'll stick with my one & only Springer Professional 1911. Over 750 rds w/o a malfunction of any sort.

I agree. Commemorative guns usually are more expensive when purchased new, and oh so gaudy. I used to collect Colt 1911's years ago when they were a little more affordable. I would like to have a new Colt 1911a1 repro. The only 1911 I have left is a 27 Systema I put a military slide on and barrel in it. The Colt commemoritives I do like are the 4 WWI battle guns in 3 different levels of trim/engraving. .

Your right and I agree.

I'm going to wait and see what Colt's come up with. If it is 'better' than their WW1 repros then I may get one. Don't know what better is 'til I see the 100 year commemorative.

My guns are shooters...except for the 1943 Colt's 1911A1...the M1911 repro that I'll get will be a shooter also. Preston
