OK, what did I do wrong? I took my new 1911 E-series 45 ACP to the range for the second time. Everything worked well on the first range trip but today, the slide stop pin popped out twice while I was firing. Before each trip I had cleaned the weapon and I've tried to follow the directions in the manual and those I've seen on line. I'm figuring I did something wrong but don't know what it might be. Any ideas on what I might have done to cause this to happen? I cleaned it when I got home and have everything back together, but don't want to have this happen again. Thanks.

mlt, hello. I am not a 1911 expert but I do have an e series sc and think I can answer your question. It sounds like the slide lever was not pushed in all of the way. The easiest way to tell is if the lever will not lock the slide back it isn't in far enough. It should be flush on the left side and protruding on the right. Hope this helps! Enjoy, these are sweet guns!

How many rounds did you fire before it happened? Did your slide lock back on the empty mag. I've never heard or seen a slide stop do that.

1911 Slide Pin issue solved

I just got back from the range and put 50 rounds through my 1911 with no problems. I believe that the pin might not have been pushed in all of the way as suggested. I know I did put it in after cleaning but may have bumped it when I put it in my gun bag and didn't notice it. Today I checked it before I fired the first round, and then checked it frequently--it didn't move. It looks like I need to pay better attention with this gun. My Shield and G19 have spoiled me. Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I believe the problem is solved!

mlt, glad to here that the problem is taken care of! So, sounds like you have been to the range enough to ask, how are the accuracy and trigger?

Accuracy

I am relatively new to the 1911 so the only thing I can compare the accuracy and trigger to is my G19 and Shield in 9mm (my 642 isn't included for obvious reasons). The 1911 is a smooth trigger and the same, or lighter, than the G19 in my opinion (both are around 5.5 lbs). My wife even commented on how quick it was. As for accuracy, it is by far my most accurate weapon. I pushed the target back as far as I could get it in the indoor range and was able to put all in a circle (5 circle target). At 7 yds, we blow the center out of the target. I really only have limited experience even thought I have gone to the range each week for almost two years, so others with more experience may be a better source of knowledge on the trigger.

mlt, good morning. Glad you had a good time! For a long time I had to call a Sig P226 Elite Dark .40 the most accurate semi I had ever fired. Then last month I got the Sc. My first time out, by the second box of range ammo I was equalling the Elite! Then, right before I left I filled a mag with my carry ammo, Federal tac hst. At 50 ft. I put all 8 rounds in the 10 ring for the best mag I myself have ever fired! Made in the U.S.A. wins again. And to top it off, it is as beautiful as a gun can be!
