I recently purchased a sw1911 and it is my first 1911. I do not care much for the bump on the grip safety. Can that be removed from the original grip or does someone know a good after market grip safety to replace the factory one with? Thanks in advance!

As Vinny says, changing the grip safety "will require smithing". And that probably means at least a couple of hours of a qualified gun smith's time, which is NOT cheap. Finding a smith who has time in his schedule will be a challenge as well.

That part is hollow and relatively thin, so just grinding it off is NOT an option.

If you visit websites for Brownells or Midway, who supply a wide variety of 1911 parts, and search for "grip safety" you will see a few examples without the palm swell. But, most people like that feature, so more grip safeties have it than not.

The other thing to discuss with the smith you select is whether the particular replacement part you like can be blended to smoothly match the pistol's frame.

Best of luck!
