Some of us on occassion carry a 1911 Type of Semi Auto Pistol for Self Defense. I find that some of my 1911s are magazine sensitive to different magazines. I have Colts that don't really like Colt Magazines. I have some that run like singer sewing machines with Shooting Star Magazines.

I have really good luck with two different Magazines in just about all of my 1911s. They are realiable and I have no stoppages with them. One is the Wilson Magazines and the other is the ACT/Novak Magazines that are made in Italy. I have a 70 Series 1911 Colt Government Model that doesn't like Colt Magazines. It'll run like all get out with the Wilson Combat Mags and the ACTs. These magazines run just fine in my Dan Wessons, Norincos, Rock Islands, Colts, Citidels, and others. Right now I think I kinds stick with them as no stoppage magazines, ie Carry Mags for my SD 1911s.

This is what's just working for me with my 1911s.

My spares I bought are Wilson & Chip Mcormick, from Midway. I did some research & those names come up again & again.

My late 70's Gold Cup doesn't really care who made the mag, it will feed emply cases. I picked up a handful of those cheap generic $5.00 mags years ago and they are my everyday practice mags and they run fine.

Wilson Combat work the best for me. I even bought spring and follower kits and converted over any other mags I had saving the original guts of course.

The problem I have with 1911 magazines is their price. My Colt runs pretty much anything other than ACT mags. My S&W loves any type I have found yet. The other 1911s do not get shot so I cannot say about them.

A friend sent me a URL last week on a place selling mags for $9 each. I am torn between ordering a few of them but hesitate since I figure they may not last or even feed.

My Dad left me a whole bunch of gun stuff when he passed in March. Among these items were about a dozen GI 1911 magazines - more than likely left over from WWll as was his .45 Gov't Colt. I was quite surprised that the springs were still so strong and almost seemed to be "heavy duty". Most of them are "cosmetically challenged", but they ALL worked flawlessly. They also seem to be from different manufacturers since they have very slight idiosyncrasies, but when it comes to their job of feeding ammo, they work great. I am lucky in that all 3 of my 1911 pistols work with any magazine as long as it's not damaged. They even work with a "junker" 18 round magazine that I bought many years ago, mostly as a joke or for laughs. It sticks out the bottom of the gun by about 5 inches but it does feed flawlessly with ball ammo.

Wilson Combats for my Rock Island 1911. It doesnt like Chips, I bought the higher end one too, not the Shooting Star. It shoots just about any type of ammo but it really wants it to be in a Wilson.

1911 Mags

Greetings,
I have carried Wilsons on and off duty for the past 23 years and trust my life to them, in Colt, Kimber and Springfield .45's. Best mag out there.
Take care,
John

give a mil surp shop a look see.
they may have some mil spec mags for cheap and of the 8 I got for 30 bucks, all 8 run perfectly ...
the only downside is finding them as I understand my mag score was just a Godsend opportunity

Well, Wilson's are good of course, but what I'm "dropping in the sand and stepping on" now are the McCormick "Power Mags" 8-round stainless with ISMI springs added.
Our range is all fine gravel and sand, and the Pro Mags are super quick to strip and clean out. ISMI silicon springs keep the same tension for a remarkably long time.

I have two Wilson Combat magazines for my full sized S&W1911 as well as a Kimber Sub Compact 7 shot magazine for my S&W Compact 1911.
The Kimber fits flush with the bottom of the grip for a neater appearance.

I tried loading a Wilson into my Springfield Milspec, it stopped 3/4 of the way in I've bought used 1911 mags and my factory mags fit just fine, any ideas while we're on the subject?

Check the top grip screws. One is protruding a hair more than the other. IMHO

47D Wilson combat++++++.45acp, Tripp Research(Cobra) mags++++++..especially in 10MM none finer.

Since I own more than one 1911 and will always own more than one, the price of a Wilson mag is a no brainer.

It's an investment. One that I trust my life with.

I know of a Wilson 47D with over 300,000 rounds through it. Still has the original spring and follower. Still works like new.

I have two Rock Islands, and both run fine with milsurp mags I got for $7 each, but they will repeatedly choke on the McCormicks. They look nice but for $25 a pop they ought to be good for more than clearance drills!

I only have one 1911, but I've had no issues with the Wilson's, Colt's or Springfield magazines. All feed flawless. The only issues I did have with feeding is when the recoil spring got weak and would not go fully into battery. Replaced that with a Wilson spring and all is well again.

I don't care for CMC Shooting Stars or similar designs personally. The spring craps out far too soon for my liking. I carry a Wilson 47D with the low profile base plate in my Colt Commander. My reloads are Wilson ETM's. With good mags, this gun will feed empty cases, butter smooth!
