Whats the best magazine for a S&W E Series 1911? What is everyone using?
I've had searched and alot of good reviews on the Wilson mags.

Personally not a fan of the CMC mags, the springs need to be replaced too frequently to be reliable. Wilson ETMs or Tripp mags for me.

I'm using stainless 8rd Wilson and stainless 10rd Chip McCormick and they work fine.

Mags

I've been using my stock S&W 1911 magazines, who ever made them, as well as a Chip Mac Cormack 10 rounder without incident. All three feed flawlessly.

It don't matter what mag you use in the new E. Even my old Devel clips work great in my E. Great gun, best of luck.

The basic Chip McCormick ShootingStar mags have worked fine for me for a long time. The Wilson mags are excellent.

Back when I wore a 1911, I would have a CMC mag in the gun (no extra baseplate model) and my spares were all Wilson 47d, since the little extra baseplate length on the Wilsons seemed like insurance for seating the mag fully under stress. The stainless Wilson mags were also less conspicuous against a white shirt, if my jacket blew open.

I read that the follower is key in the lightweight 1911. AFAIK the steel follower might damage the scandium frame. The trapped follower is better.

I've been using the Chip McCormick and they work just fine.
I've also read good reviews on the Wilsons.

I've been shooting 1911s in competition for about 25 yrs. and I'm a sucker for trying different mags. I shoot 45ACP, 10mm, 40S&W, 357SIG, 38 Super and 9mm. in 1911s. The mags that are the most problematic by far are Wilsons. I just sold 6 near new Wilson 9mm ETM 10 rounders after consistently having to fight nose down jams. Wilson 38 Super 10 rounders often will only take 9 rounds. A friend shooting a 45 at a match recently had to put only 7 rounds in his 8 round Wilson to avoid nose down jams.

I use McCormicks in 45, 38 Super and 10mm. My 9mm 1911s run great with Metalform or Tripp Cobras which are both made by Metalform.

YMMV.

I guess I'm the odd guy here, but I have always used Tripp Cobra Mags 8 and 10 round mags in Kimbers, Colts, Brown and S&W 1911s and have never had any negative issues.
