4506 Magazines, just a bit too short.

Magazine Update

I received the Metal Base plates for Jack First. However they are not a drop in fit. First the magazines that I recently bought do not have the dimple at the bottom where the base plate goes. These magazines were made for plastic base plates. Then I had to remove some material from the base plates to get them to fit properly on the magazine tube, just like another member mentioned above. I tried to show this in some pictures. Once I got them fitted, I peened the rear edges of the base plate so they could not slide off. I tested them with some dummy rounds and they worked. I can honestly say that if I had the magazines that I recently bought in my hands as they were I would have thought they would have fit the 4506 the difference is too small to detect without having a pistol to test them in.

Thank you all for participating.

I would search for some NOS Pachmayr bumper pads to protect the metal plates.

Rubber bumper pads are not going to help keep those 1st version base plates in place. Those 1st version plates are held by a small spring tab. A forceful slamming of the magazine into the pistol can force the base plate forward, potentially completely off of the magazine tube. I think that a rubber pad on this style of base plate is only going to increase the friction of your hand across the bottom of that base plate, making it's unintended removal even more likely.

Not Worried

I am noy worried about the base plates coming off of the magazines. As I stated in the update, I peened the edges of the base plates closed and they are not going anywhere. Also no need to slam these magazines into the pistol, they work fine inserting them with minimal effort.

Thank you.
