1911

And one more vote for the SR1911. I have no clue how Ruger can make this price point as this is one well built 1911. As it stands up to now I have absolutely no complaints what so ever. It will be interesting to see what they will do next with there 1911s. Here's a picture of mine with my 4566.

Ruger's keeps costs down because their casting facility is top notch. They can pump out cast frames and slides that are as strong as any forging very quickly and cheaply and a minimal tool replacement or metal loss.

Good guns. They had a run of front sights shearing off (example of a bad casting) but they probably have that worked out by now.

OP,rock island makes really good guns. And they continually improve the product as well. They are a fine way to get into the 1911 platform.

I do think that S&W offers the most features for the $ though Some really slick guns with lots features.mmif you shop around, you can get them at a REALLY good price.

I always recommend getting into a basic GI style 1911 before getting something fancy and more personalized because it is hard to determine which features you want before owning one. After owning a basic one a while, different upgrades and features will speak to you more than others.
