1914 Mauser

I have this 1914 Mauser pistol with the following lettering & # neatly stamp on it,what
do they mean,any idea? (P.B.Hbg No.48) ( ser.#67748)

I think that it means it belonged to the Hamburg police.

Nice pistol. Is the magazine numbered to the gun?
Sometimes the German Police numbered their mags.

Ser# range from about 66,000 to 68,500
Just prior to WW1 and during WW1

These had 'No' (Number) before the individual weapon number (rack number it's sometimes called).
The post WW1 issues didn't have the 'No' in the marking. I think the style of the characters is a little different on the Post WW1 issue too,,maybe not.
I think post WW1 issue Hmburg PD were in the 205,000 to 212,000 range.

Very collectable MAusers.

Interarms bought a lot of them in the 60's and refinished them upon import.
Originals get the $$ of course.


I don't have my Mauser books anymore, going on memory. Better info most likely available with a search on the net.
