Ran across a S&W DA 45 today that seemed to be mechanically sound, but the finish was probably at 65-70 percent and missing the lanyard loop... serial number was 333**, so it was a pretty early model.... the grips were original but there were large X's carved in them and hunks of wood missing... it was priced at $300... is this reasonable????

I can't see you going wrong with that gun. $300 for a shooter! Nice find. I'd fork over $300 without a thought for such a gun.

You can always throw some different stocks on the gun if you need to.

Yeah, I'd go for a 1917 for $300! Grips may not be original to the gun, and lanyard rings are available. You probably will find this to be a fun addition to your collection...clean it up, and shoot it! I have a 1926 vintage commercial, and it shoots well (however, only with light bullets...go figger). Great guns.
