Nice 1917. Can't tell from the picture, does it have the early hammer. I think after serial #25000 the hammer style changed.

We love the old 1917s here and enjoy seeing them.

Looks like your Hammer is the second kind, and, the Revolver is from the Hammer change phase of around Serial No. 25,000.

Seems to be in fine condition!

I will, it will just take some time, this is a lot of guns. We first need a ball park to see who gets what. I am getting the Remingtons though, after she told us they were hers. her family moved to SC after a run in with the law out in MO. Richard is from NY and has never heard of the Youngers.

I am going to ask for this gun to go to my side of the pile, would anyone venture a fair ballpark just to help keep things fair? And I think the remingtons will be split, I made to much of a fuss and my friend wants the other one.

The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson (which was published in 2006) has them at $950 for Excellent Condition and $700 for Very Good. The Blue Book of Gun Values (33rd edition, published 2012) has them at $1620 for 70% condition, and $1850 for 80% condition. Both SCSW and Blue Book would add a premium for the early military model with concentric circles on the hammer. And one listed in NRA Excellent condition (with period holster) just sold for $1175 on Gun Auction. I realize that is quite a range of prices, but perhaps it gives you some idea of the "book" and "selling" values.

No, there's no first page so to speak!! I think he just started a new thread for the 1917 to see approx. what it's worth!!

Best as I can gather, from what's going on in the original thread, he & his partner are trying assess values to what they acquired to figure out who's getting what to make the split as equal as they can!! Just my thoughts!!
