Hi, it's been a while since I posted anything. Been busy with my other toys.

I have a 1917 that was in pieces when I got it from my dad's gun collection. I found a barrel that had a slight bulge and had it fitted by a gunsmith.

The issue is the hand, in single action mode the cylinder works fine, but in double action the cyclinder does engage all the way, and I have had some shaving hit my hand after firing.

from what I found is there are no hands available, and trying to fix it can be very tricky.

Mind you, I have three others, so I am not out, but is it worth repairing, keeping for extra parts or selling to someone who has the means to fix it correctly.

Thanks in advance,

SMB

A modern hand will work in a 1917. It takes no more fitting than it does for an original hand or a modern hand in a modern gun. I have fitted one in a 1917 and two in Second Models which are the same gun basically. How wide is your current hand? You may need an oversize hand.

Not sure how wide the hand is? where do I measure the hand at and do I use a set of calipers?

You measure the width at the top of the hand with a set of calipers or a micrometer. I missed the part where you said yours was a Brazilian, and I apologize. If yours has the hammer block in the sideplate, the modern hand will not work. If it has no hammer block, then it will work. If it is the type with the hammer block in the sideplate, then that hand has a ramp like piece on the back of it. That ramp wedges the hammerblock out of the way when the gun is cocked. Those hands are hard to find.
