I picked up a 1917 shooter that is nothing great, no rust, very little blueing, solid shooter. I was thinking about having it refinished to a nickle, or hard chrome finish. Would Smith put a nickle finish on it, or who would you have do the work? Later John

Smith and Wesson will not work on a gun that old.

For what it is worth, I would consider having Ford's put a 400 grit polish on the gun and have it hot blued as Horace there is a master at matching the original carbonia blue finish with the hot blue process to the point it has even fooled me. He gets the gun looking like it was the day it rolled off the line and can even re-do the case colors on the hammer and trigger.

recently Fords has had some problems and I would encourage you to do some research before sending anything to them.

The problem that Ford's does have is too much work coming in. They do all the hard chrome and other specialty finishes for Magnum Research, the makers of the Desert Eagle. They also get Military contracts to refinish all types of small arms so, your project may not be a priority because they get so busy. They do try to work with you though.
