I can see no reason...if it is what you desire.

Side plate screws look a little buggered (typical of a well used piece).

The grip material could have great influence on market value.

What is it?

Ivory, bone or synthetic?

FWIW, I have SN: 5867 which shipped in Dec. 1917. The grooved hammer is only on the very early guns. The nickel plating, obviously, is not original. Enjoy.

Your 1917 has been refinished in aftermarket nickel. I would not pay $550 for it, but $400 would be in the ballpark. Maybe less if the action is rough. Here is one I nabbed that originally had TiN on the hammer and trigger (gold-colored plating). I recently replaced them with an original case colored set.

As long as it locks up tight it should be worth it. The Aftermarket Nickle does detract from the value, and it would just be considered a shooter, but they are great shooters.

From the pictures I would guess the stocks are genuine plastic. That coupled with a nickel refinish just isn't my cup of tea.

However, if it's a good shooter, it sure should be worth $550 to the person who isn't put off by its appearance.
