Why am I having a hard time finding a Smith built in 1952, Birth year. I see pre 36's or over priced Pre 20's 23's.
 
I’ve seen several pre 18s from ‘52 posted including mine

The Ruger turned out to be a birth year gun (‘54)when I checked the serial number after it arrived

My dad bought a Combat Masterpiece made late in 1951. I assume he bought it to protect the household which included his new bride who was pregnant with Jeppo, born in May of ‘52. For me, that late 1951 gun is close enough. ;)
 
There’s a Combat Masterpiece from 1952 on the popular auction site right now. The seller is pretty proud of it, but it is in rather nice shape.

My birth year is 1952 also I have these from that year pre-17, pre-18 and a 1950 model that is month and year. They're out there just keep looking.
 
I was wondering same thing about about a year ago. Everything seemed to be 1950 or 1952. Kept wondering...Why can't I find a 1951 birth year S&W? Finally got a Pre-10 Snubbie and paid a premium to get it because I thought I might not run across another. Just as soon as I got it several 1951's started showing up. Also happens with certain models. Why? Who knows???
There is one with your name on it...just watch and wait... impatiently.

I have a K-38 Combat Masterpiece (Pre-Model 15), bottom revolver in picture, manufactured in 1952.

The upper revolver is a K-38 Target Masterpiece (Pre-Model 14) manufactured in 1950.

I have a Baby Chiefs Special shipped in October of 1952 and a 1950 Army Model .45 "Pre-Model 22" shipped in June of 1952. I wouldn't sell either one cheap if I were to part with them, as they are not as common as an M&P .38 from that year for example and both are in high condition. What do you consider overpriced ?
 
You're having a hard time finding one because you're looking for one. I have half a dozen guns made in 1955 and wasn't looking for any of them.

I have a 38 Combat Masterpiece that shipped in 1952 and I don't really want to sell it but if it shipped on your birthday I would consider it if you're interested. What's your date of birth?
 
I have a pre-27 from 1952. It's 3-1/2", all matching, near new, and not for sale!

My birth year is 1954. I've noticed a scarcity of that year in my searches.

I just picked up my third 1952....

First was a pre-27 6" that lettered to the day I was born. Next was a pre-17 that a friend was going to sell so traded me for a 1951 I had. Last was just a few months ago, a very clean 4" Heavy Duty with original grips that was on GunBroker that went for only $800 I think...

Also have two 1952 Colt Commanders in .38 Super that have been my daily carry guns for since 1980...

They are out there....

These engraved pre-27s were all shipped in 1952 with the rare factory Blanchard front sight insert that was only used for a short time in 1952.





With the above exceptions, I only have one other 1952 shipped gun in my collection - a 38/44 Outdoorsman.

Art Doc may be onto something. I have 3 birth year guns, a Browning High Power that was proofmarked sometime in the month of, or within the 2 months prior to my DOB, A K-38 Masterpiece that shipped 2 days prior to my DOB and a 22/32 Kit Gun that shipped the month prior to my DOB. I knew none of these facts at the time the guns were purchased, it was either serendipity or dumb luck.

I'm another '52 model who has never seen but one '52 S&W. That one was a 38 S&W Terrier. I've seen and owned 47-51's, and 53's to 2019, but that Terrier is still the only 52 I've ever seen, that I know of.
 
I'm also a '52 model. Some years ago I ran across a Baby Chief that also dated to '52. It had an aftermarket nickel job but was done nicely and had a tight lockup. I paid a little more than I wanted to but bought it and have never regretted it. It looks and functions better than I do. :D
