A happy and healthy new year to everyone on this lovely forum! I am trying to start the new year off with a bang! I found a 1955 Pre Model 27 3.5 inch in pretty good shape and the gentleman is asking 2k..... I was wondering if this is fair.... I will be uploading pictures shortly.....

Hello. I can give you a comparison. I just bought a pre model 27 unfired mint condition with factory gold box and tools with paper work. It is a 1952 MFG. 3.5" Paid $3,100

For me if you don't have the box and tools and is not in unfired condition you can do the math. Go from there.

New to the forum here - I like pre-27, 29 and CSs. Would love to see a pic/details of your mint pre-27. That would be a good reference point as I am heading to numerous guns shows in the next three months...

Maybe a little high, but too much? I don't know. I saw one for $1800 at a gun show about 15 years ago! For another example: I bought one for $500 about about 25 years ago, I thought it was overpriced at the time. It turned out to be an early 1950 in like new condition with stag grips. I would NOT let it go for $2000 today.

When do you think you will find one in that condition for a lesser price?

I missed typing the NOT in the first post. Kinda changes the meaning........don'tcha know!

$2000 is a bit high,$1700-1800 is probably what seller is wanting...$1500-1600 would be a steal....depending on how long you been looking, how bad you want. Are grips # to the gun?

I recently paid $750 for mine, but there is a hole in the sideplate under the stocks.

I saw one at my area Cabela's the week before Christmas. It was in nice shape. Shooter grade in my opinion. Grips were not period correct (Smooth Targets) it had some handling marks and a little blue loss at the muzzle and high edges of the cylinder. S-serial number, 5 screw, priced at $1499.99 before a 10% sale. I passed because I already have a couple. Here is a photo I took. I imagine it has a new owner now.

If its 95% or better with original stocks $2000 is reasonable for a pre 27; however, $1500 to $1800 is more reasonable. :)

I only have 1 pre 27 (1953), the other 4 are 27-2s

In that shape, all matching,I would say $2,000 is about right.

I have a different dilemma. I have a mint original gold box but no gun. So I will be on the hunt this year for a really nice, all matching 3 1/2" pre-27.
