I used to do gunsmithing years ago and was going through boxes of parts I hadn't opened in many years. I found a S&W 1955 muzzle brake that I bought two of for a 1955 that I used to shoot in NRA 2700 bullseye competition (four gun, that tells you about how old I am). I never put it on the gun, and it's like new. It has the hex screw, and is marked Smith & Wesson. The I.D. is about .77 inches so it should, I think, fit current N frame 25's of at least 5 inch barrel without full ejector housing (it will not fit a 4 inch barrel, not enough barrel in front of the lug).
These are not pictures of mine, but I got them off the net as an example. The screw in mine is a hex head, indicating without a doubt it is made by Smith & Wesson. It is as new. To attach, you take out the screw, slide the muzzle brake on the barrel until it stops, and reinstall and tighten the screw. The screw locks behind the front sight base.
Maybe someone who collects will want to configure their 1955 Target to period correct bullseye condition.
Price is $150 delivered. First "I want it" gets it if we can PM within a couple of days and payment is received (Post Office MO) within a week or so.
