1957 no dash Model 28 4 screw

Pleased with HP - got it for 6 bills. Serial No. 183,5XX is late 1958-early 1959 according to book; trying to track down source of 1957 date I was given. M27 was everything they said, but I still think 1200 is too much.

I paid $550 shipped for an HP (pre 28) 11 years ago, so I don't think that $600 today is out of line. Mine is a 5 screw serial number S 1291XX that shipped in 4 of 1955. Since the HP was introduced on April 15, 1954, mine is either a late first year gun or an early 2nd year gun.

It is also interesting to note that your gun is model marked, however, the box is not. Just goes to show that S&W did not throw anything away and obviously used up all of their HP boxes before they began shipping in boxes marked Model 28. Mine resides in a non marked box serialed to a gun produced somewhat later with an S 147XXX serial number written on the bottom. The box has no exterior markings but has a printed white label on one end.

5 screw Mod 28

I lucked up last week when a friend of mine that runs a shop in his back yard called me and told me he had a mod 28 in 95% condition.I told him I would take it. I was shocked when I went to get it. I did the paper work and could not waite to get it home. It was a 5 screw S frame. As soon as I got home I called S&W customer service . They looked up the serial number101xxx and told me it was made in 1954.would you believe i got this one for $350:)
