Hi all,
Fall isn't too far away and I have a iconic bird gun here for someone. Forgive the long-winded description; hopefully I can answer most of your ?s. I'd like to find a good 1911 .45 to work a trade (prefer Commander size, but will consider 5" full size also). I'm putting a value of 1700 on my Browning.
20ga 1958 RKLT Browning Superposed with 26.5" barrels choked IC/M, perfect bores, great piece of figured wood, uncut with original horn butt plate. Screws excellent plus, weight 6lbs 8oz chambered for both the 2.75" or 3" magnum (IIRC the first or 2nd year Browning offered the 20ga magnum).
It's been carried a lot with the action silver and the checkering mostly worn smooth over the POW grip. Wood to metal fit is superb and there are no cracks. There is NO rust/pitting and all the engraving is very crisp. Forend wood and barrel blue are VG+ with just a little bluing wear on the lower barrel where the forend contacts it. Barrels chime true. Lever is just starting to go left of center but lock up is still tight and it fully captures a 2 thou feeler gauge. Ejectors are timed and it will bounce dimes off the ceiling. I forgot to jot down the choke constrictions, but my gunsmith said it ran a little tighter than the usual IC/M consistent with these earlier Belgian guns. The bbls have never been honed and this shotgun is 100% factory original, never messed with.
I have a soft spot for 16 and 28 gauges, but have been burned before trying to find extra shells on a trip. The 20s are ubiquitous and this will digest either the 2.75" or 3" ammo. I wouldn't mess with it, but send it to Art's Gun Shop, or Midwest Gunworks and have the grip panels recut and the action reblued for a few hundred bucks.
I've owned a lot of shotguns trying to find the perfect one. As much as I like doubles, I've yet to find anything I can shoot as well as the old Winchester Model 12 pump gun.
Please drop a PM and I'll be happy to email better pics, answer any ?s, give references, etc.. Usual 3 day inspection- you can return for any reason if not 100% happy as long as you cover return shipping and insurance.
