1968 Model 27-2 w 5" barrel...PICS!

my mod 27 2 is in near perfect condition,no box or original paperwork, the original finish is only slightly worn underneath the grip.it has what i believe to be pearl handles.the serial num begins s 254xxx.can anyone help me establish a manufacture date, and maybe an apprx. value? thanks

I love the 5" 27"s I've got two of them and when I learn how to take pictures like you I will post them. I have a 27-3 4" nickel that I bought last year and when I go to the range it's on my hip. I'm courting a 6" gun from 1969 with the box and tools. The trigger and hammer has been changed to the target versions. The originals are in the box as well as all the paperwork and tools.

well Saxon, thats a nice one pretty close to the newly acquired one in my collection,i feel kinda lost cause its my first and i know next to nuthin..can anyone recommend an accurate pricing guide for purchase or even a free website for these killer S & Ws!

I love the 5-inch 27, and I have to clean the drool off the keyboard after seeing the OP's.

am i doing something wrong here? i was lookin for info on my new S&W mod 27 ran across this site and joined..maybe they just aint no one on line or maybe because im new to this ? i apologize if i done something wrong. maybe someone can steer me in the right direction if im not on it..didnt mean to just jump straight in,i geuss im just anxious to find out what kinda peice of S&W history i have..thanks

My book say's 1964-1965 range. In the condition as seen here I would say between $675-$800 range. I can't check the gun for timing, end play cut on the top strap above the forcing cone so I'm giving you a pretty big range. The last one I bought was $ 650 two years ago its about 98% very slight turn line. with original presentation case loaded.

hey you guys helped me out tremendously, and im grateful..thanks alot Bob, i appreciate your time and help buddy..hopefully i can return the favor sometime...soon as i learn to get some pictures up here on this thing ill post that 27 so yall can see..thanks

just today i was also fortunate enough to pick up one of those new Air Lite N Frame .44 mags and i tell you that is one of the nicest feeling hand canons ive ever had the privilege of firing even though its light as a feather! any thoughts or opions are welcomed

Here's my 79 28-2. What a fantastic gun. My first S&W.

I ruined mine by haveing smith putting my name on it after I bought it around 1970.

..you guys are killing me... I've had two 27-2 5" guns both of which I sold... Both were 70s vintage guns one of which was NIB and sold that way. The other was a great shooter....

Don't know about you guys but wish that S&W had put 5" barrels on their Mountain Guns instead of 4s.....

One day I'll find another one....hopefully...

Bob
