1975 Ruger Security Six snubnose

In the late 70's early 80's the truck gun on the farm was a stainless Speed Six with the 4" barrel. Dad reloaded and had a low end .357 Mag load with Blue Dot powder that I was allowed to use. I became a good shot with that gun and load. I have been passively looking for that gun for 10+ years.

My first ruger in 357 mag is the GF 32 / 2 3/4" barrel in stainless. With the " made in the 200 th year of american liberty" the 1776/1976 model. It was never in the ruger catalogs. Value unknown?
Why, I seen the same GF revolver sell for $750 with no inscription. But it was dated 1977.

For decades finding a used colt, ruger or s&w revolver in 357 was rare. When the plastic handguns hit the market, plus add the boomers passing on the used 357 revolvers started showing up. About 18 years ago my LGS put a ruger security six 357/6" in blue in excellent condition for $150 in the case. No way I'd pass that up.

These police, security series sixes were the finest ever made. The only draw back is there's no 1800/1900 early history. Ruger is a fairly new company. But they make great quality firearms. Awesome carry snubbies.

Congratulations on your Security Six. In my opinion they're the best DA revolver Ruger ever built. They were Ruger's version of and competition to the model 19. Over the years I've owned several GP100's, an SP101, a classic 44 mag Redhawk, and an Alaskan Redhawk. Most of them were traded or sold off but this Security Six with 6" barrel will stay with me.

I have a 150-series 2.75" fixed sight revolver marked Security Six. Bought it at a pawn shop in Junction City, Kansas, in 1993, for $165. It had a set of faux stag grips on it that were anything but user friendly with magnum loads. I had a heck of a time finding a set of originals. I wish I'd bought its companion 4" version sitting in the display case with it at the same time. They'd belonged to a retired deputy sheriff. Still shake my head about that mistake.

Fond recollections of the Ruger S6 series...
It was my first centerfire revolver bought a year or so after I started working at an area sporting goods/LGS. Got to be buddies with a slightly older guy there ( I was 16) and he let me shoot his Ruger S6 blued 4".

Also, at the time, S&W M66's were very hard to come by at LGS's, supposedly because the LE market was being concentrated on. Can recall selling many S6 revolvers in SS due to M66's not being available.

I put a S6 4" SS on layaway and my Dad came in to do the paperwork so it could be mine. Soon after started loading for it. I was in love with it.

A few years later it went away on a trade. Always sorta missed it.
The GP's, first marketed as 'an improved design', IMO just weren't.

Picked this one up on 'broker a few years back - it's even the same year as my first S6, 1975. Numrich had the smooth target grips which work great.
The S6 series was one of Ruger's best efforts.

I've said it many times. The worst mistake Ruger ever made was discontinuing the Six Series revolvers.

I like the service grips, but they don't really fill the hand. I tried the Pachmayr Gripper, but even though the box was labeled Security Six it didn't fit so I purchased these reproduction target grips from a company called AR-7. The price was right and they seem solid enough.
